**Chapter 2** The storm slammed into the house like it had a personal grudge. Rain hammered the windows in sheets so heavy it sounded like gravel being thrown against the glass. Thunder cracked overhead every few minutes, rattling the frame of my new bed. I lay there in the dark staring at the ceiling, heart still pounding from dinner and the way Jace had looked at me across that island like he wanted to either punch me or pin me down.
