Adrien’s POV The road back felt longer than it should have, not because of distance, but because of what kept replaying in my head. I couldn't follow up with Lucian, because I knew Celeste wouldn't want to see me either. I didn't want to provoke her either, that was why I drove back home. I entered the mansion, as the sky outside softened into the early morning, that cold in-between light where everything feels exposed. I stepped inside without announcing myself, and the first thing I heard was my mother's voice, laughing aloud. When I reached the main room, I saw them immediately.
