Lyra's POVMy alarm went off at six a.m. on the dot. You'd think, after years of training with us, waking up at 5:30 a.m. to run and do calisthenics, I'd be a morning person. The truth of the matter is, I hate the morning; no matter how much coffee I drink, I still feel like a zombie.Rolling out of bed, I go to the very small ensuite bathroom and turn the water on to warm up. I take my clothes off, put them in my basket of dirty clothes, and wonder whether I'll ever come back to wash them or if they'll be donated to the next girl who needs them.Testing the water temperature, I was pleased to know I had hot water for at least the next few minutes. Jumping in, I rubbed myself down head to toe with my washcloth and the tea tree oil soap. Lyra’s POVPulling away from Aurelia, we began to drive down the five-mile driveway to the main road. At one point, it had been beautifully paved, with no bumps, no potholes, and especially no sinkholes.But, like anything, add a bit of neglect and a century-long conflict, and it would fade and warp over time. Clutching the manila envelope in my hand, I was super curious to see what kind of normalcy Commander Rourke and the council came up with for Rowan and me.Making sure that Rowan and I were ready, the Commander nodded for both of us to open the envelopes.Enclosed in my envelope were several pages, and just from a quick glance, they looked like school transfer documents.Pulling out the first document, it looked almost like a birth certificate.
