ELARAI woke up to silence and a chain around my wrists.Kate was asleep on the cot across from me, sitting upright with her head dropped to one side and her arms folded. She had not gone to bed, but had to stop moving at some point.Sleep had taken her where she sat.I could feel the full moon through the roof and that feeling sat with me for a moment. I tested it the way you test a sore tooth with your tongue to see how bad it still is. Oh, yes. The full moon was still bad, but better than last night. I looked back at the chain carefully, and it seemed as if Kate had looped it loosely enough to anchor not to restrain me. At least it didn't burn like the journals claimed the silver chain would.I moved my wrists slowly, working the links.Surprisingly, the loop was wide which told me a lot about Kate's clumsiness.
