ARIAI sat awkwardly on my bed, still feeling stiff and weak, when Mira rushed into the room. ALARICI looked up from my phone when I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. ARIAAfter a few more days of resting, I was starting to lose my mind. All I had done since I woke up was eat, sleep, and lie around in my room. Sometimes I stretched for a few minutes because my body felt stiff, but that was about it.Alaric had made it very clear that I was supposed to rest, and apparently, that meant I wasn't allowed to do anything else.There wasn't even a television in the room.I couldn't go downstairs and hang around with the others either. ARIAI looked around for what felt like the hundredth time. Nothing. No one was following me.I had been outside for about twenty minutes, and I still couldn't shake the feeling that Alaric had probably sent someone after me. I wasn't going anywhere anyway. ALARICThe car shook as I drove through the uneven road, the tires dropping into one pothole after another. I glanced through the windshield and old, rundown houses lined both sides of the narrow street. Some of the buildings looked like they could collapse at any moment, their walls stained and cracked from years of neglect. The whole place looked more like a dump site than somewhere people actually lived.Yet there were people here.I could see a few of them sitting outside their homes, watching the car pass with tired expressions. ARIAI followed Mira down the hallway, forcing myself to keep my head held high even though I could feel the eyes of the few people we passed following me. Some openly glared, others only glanced at me before looking away. I tried not to let it bother me.Mira looked back at me once, her expression worried, but she said nothing. My steps slowed as the voices grew louder, filling the underground passage with shouting, laughter, and occasional cheers.
