Raphael “We gave chase and have a few prisoners,” Urien says. “How many?” I ask. “Four.” “Break them. Find out everything you can, and make sure we have enough men guarding the border tonight.” He lowers his head. “Yes, Alpha.” I turn from my men and begin walking through the camp. It spreads across rough ground, filled with tents and smoky fires. The air smells of wood smoke and boiled food. It hums with tension. Healers tend to the wounded in a quieter corner, the smell of herbs mixing with blood for those struck by silver bullets. It takes us longer to heal from such things. Naked men and women pace around the camp, having just been in battle—including me. My steps carry me to the war tent where the generals have gathered. A helper moves among them, passing out towels. I take one, wrap it around my waist, and stride to the front of the table where they all stand assembled. “General Luthorn and Lieutenant Ivy are holding the front of the southeast border. The sharp mountain

Valeria “AAAH!” Guards surround the area now. Jade continues to scream, and I cover my eyes. My phone is on the floor. I can hear Raphael through it, asking what happened, but I can’t move, I can’t speak. “It’s Emmet! It’s Emmet!” Jade screams, and she’s right. It is Prince Emmet. The rest is a blur. I somehow find myself in my room, stunned. Jade is in hers. I can hear Mother consoling her. My phone rings, and I think it’s been ringing for a while, but I don’t have the strength to pick it up. I know it’s Raphael. How do I tell him? How do I tell him that his brother is… dead? My hands shake, remembering what I saw. He was mutilated. Skin hung off the muscles. Eyes were plucked out. His lips and ears were gone, and his fingers were just bare bones. Torn clothes showed signs he was trying to shift, but whatever got him was too fast. Someone knocks, but I don’t even attempt to get up. The door opens, and Stephan walks in. “Valeria.” I look up at him, my eyes watering, and I br

Valeria I watch the ravens fly together as if they were a source of power at Grimm’s command. After they slam into the first rogue, a flock breaks off from formation and rushes the stunned wolf. They swarm him, covering him completely. I can’t see a single hair of the werewolf. When they finally fly off, the wolf is dead. Its eyes pecked out, body covered in bleeding lacerations, entrails spilling. I stumble in shock and fall to the ground. Grimm continues his hand movements, and another wolf is attacked. This time, a smaller flock breaks off, rushing the two wolves behind us. They don’t do much damage, but they distract them long enough. I close my eyes and cover myself, bracing for the ravens to attack me next, but it never comes. Opening my eyes, I see Grimm deeply concentrating. The third wolf falls, and Grimm turns to another, when suddenly he drops to his knees as an axe whirls out of the darkness and buries itself in his back. What is happening! I want to scream, but I can’

Valeria When I wake up the next morning, I’m alone in my bed. Raphael and I spent the night together, and it was nice and sweet. He was so gentle. A welcome change, but he left early. A few knocks come from my door. “Miss Valeria, you have been called to go to practice.” I hear Nolan at the door. I rush over and pull it open. “What? Have they started again?” “Yes. It was decided today that training will begin once more. Everyone is expected at the training grounds.” “Okay.” I quickly get ready and head out. When I arrive at the training grounds, I’m shocked to see Raphael half‑naked and sweaty. He stands next to Antonio and Stephan, who doesn’t look happy. “Is that Raphael?” a girl says. “Yes!” another giggles. “Oh my gosh! He looks so hot!” He looks impossibly hot. I narrow my eyes at him as I step into the seating area and drop to the floor. Raphael grins and throws me a wink. I take a seat next to Grimm, and he immediately speaks. “I’ve been thinking about what you sai

Valeria Max barks at the men firing their guns. “I can’t believe they are fucking doing this!” Grimm says as I come up to him. He stands outside the castle, watching. “This is such bullshit.” I put a hand over my eyes to shade them from the light and look at the trees. “Is it me, or are there barely any ravens around?” “Yeah. They’ve killed a few, but it’s as if they knew to stay away. I mean, the loud noises don’t help at all either, which is good.” I nod, meeting his gaze. “So what do you think? Is there another person out there like us?” He pauses, then nods slowly. “I think… that it is a very good possibility. The real question is, who?” “Do you have it?” His attention comes to me, and he pats his pocket, knowing what I am speaking of. “I do.” “Should we?” I ask. “We should. But we have to be careful. No one is allowed in the woods today. Not after what happened yesterday.” He looks around. “Let’s go around the house. See if we can find an opening where no one will notic
