CHAPTER 21

"Okay, wait a minute. What if we-"The vibration of Belle's phone cut her short.Without looking at the caller ID, she declined the call."It just occurred to me that Principal Lim-"Her phone started vibrating again, cutting her off for the second time. Still without looking at the caller ID, she declined it again. So, I was thinking-"Her phone interrupted her for the third time in less than a minute."Take the fucking hint!" she snapped in irritation. She picked it up, ready to decline it again, but the moment her eyes landed on the caller ID, her entire expression changed. The irritation was instantly replaced with admiration and a smile so genuine I thought was too good to be true. From my peripheral vision, I managed to catch the name saved on the screen.Mrs. Anderson."Hi, Kate," she greeted enthusiastically.Josh watched her with keen interest. Personally, I couldn't wait for her to finish the call and get back to her idea of helping me not get expelled."Oh my goodness, I'm

CHAPTER 22

I was wide awake, hours before the shrill sound of my alarm went off. The sound was enough to bring me back to reality—I had been lost in my thoughts.I leaned toward the bedside stool and stretched my hand out, searching for the alarm in the dark. The moment my fingers came in contact with it, I turned it off. Then I lay back on my bed, staring at the ceiling as I drifted back into my thoughts. There was only one word clouding my mind.JULIAN.How am I supposed to tutor him?I don't want to have any dealings with him. He is a thief—a proud, rude, mannerless thief. And now, I had to keep up with him, get him to take school seriously, and somehow miraculously make his grades spike? How was that even supposed to happen? Why not just leave the guy to do whatever the fuck he chose with his life?So much for someone who has zero interest in studying. He is privileged enough to attend a prestigious high school, comes from a wealthy family that practically runs the town, has willing and able

Principal Lim looked at her like she'd grown two heads."I'm sorry, what? What has Mrs. Anderson got to do with-""We really should wait for them," she interrupted him, nonchalantly.I looked up at Belle with teary eyes. She winked at me as Josh handed me a napkin. As if on cue, there was a knock on the door.Principal Lim took a moment to steady himself. His eyes moved from me to Belle, completely ignoring Josh's presence. He took a deep breath before ushering whoever was outside in."Come in," he said calmly. The door opened, and a tall, slender woman stepped into the room. She looked like someone who was accustomed to walking into a room and immediately commanding attention.Everything about her screamed wealth, sophistication, and arrogance. She carried herself with the kind of confidence that made people instinctively move out of her way."Good morning, Mrs-""I didn't come here for pleasantries, Lim."Her voice was sharp enough to cut through the room."I got an email requesting

CHAPTER 24

Julian stepped into the office, and the surprise on his face was evident. He probably hadn't expected to see this many people in the room. For a moment, nobody said anything. His eyes moved from Principal Lim to Belle. She scoffed and looked away. Then his gaze landed on me.What was that in his eyes? Was that…concern? Is he concerned about me?He probably heard about my fight. And to think that he saw me in a very vulnerable state yesterday. Now I'm sitting in the Principal's office. I think he knows I'm about to be punished.I mean, who doesn't? My predicament is quite obvious. His eyes lingered on me for a few seconds, and almost immediately, the irritation returned to his face. This time, he scoffed. And just like Belle, he looked away. Then, his eyes landed on Principal Lim before moving to Mrs. Mallory, completely ignoring his mom. What? Why'd he do that?“Hi, Julian.” There was a wide, almost desperate smile on her face. “I just had a little misunderstanding with your...”“How’
