Principal Lim looked at her like she'd grown two heads.

"I'm sorry, what? What has Mrs. Anderson got to do with-"

"We really should wait for them," she interrupted him, nonchalantly.

I looked up at Belle with teary eyes.

She winked at me as Josh handed me a napkin.

As if on cue, there was a knock on the door.

Principal Lim took a moment to steady himself. His eyes moved from me to Belle, completely ignoring Josh's presence. He took a deep breath before ushering whoever was outside in.

Julian stepped into the office, and the surprise on his face was evident. He probably hadn't expected to see this many people in the room. For a moment, nobody said anything. His eyes moved from Principal Lim to Belle. She scoffed and looked away. Then his gaze landed on me.What was that in his eyes? Was that…concern? Is he concerned about me?He probably heard about my fight. And to think that he saw me in a very vulnerable state yesterday. Now I'm sitting in the Principal's office. I think he knows I'm about to be punished.I mean, who doesn't? My predicament is quite obvious. His eyes lingered on me for a few seconds, and almost immediately, the irritation returned to his face. This time, he scoffed. And just like Belle, he looked away. Then, his eyes landed on Principal Lim before moving to Mrs. Mallory, completely ignoring his mom. What? Why'd he do that?“Hi, Julian.” There was a wide, almost desperate smile on her face. “I just had a little misunderstanding with your...”“How’

He took a deep breath before ushering whoever was outside in."Come in," he said calmly. The door opened, and a tall, slender woman stepped into the room. She looked like someone who was accustomed to walking into a room and immediately commanding attention.Everything about her screamed wealth, sophistication, and arrogance. She carried herself with the kind of confidence that made people instinctively move out of her way."Good morning, Mrs-""I didn't come here for pleasantries, Lim."Her voice was sharp enough to cut through the room."I got an email requesting

  • The Scholarship Girl    CHAPTER 22

I was wide awake, hours before the shrill sound of my alarm went off. The sound was enough to bring me back to reality—I had been lost in my thoughts.I leaned toward the bedside stool and stretched my hand out, searching for the alarm in the dark. The moment my fingers came in contact with it, I turned it off. Then I lay back on my bed, staring at the ceiling as I drifted back into my thoughts. There was only one word clouding my mind.JULIAN.How am I supposed to tutor him?I don't want to have any dealings with him. He is a thief—a proud, rude, mannerless thief. And now, I had to keep up with him, get him to take school seriously, and somehow miraculously make his grades spike? How was that even supposed to happen? Why not just leave the guy to do whatever the fuck he chose with his life?So much for someone who has zero interest in studying. He is privileged enough to attend a prestigious high school, comes from a wealthy family that practically runs the town, has willing and able

"Okay, wait a minute. What if we-"The vibration of Belle's phone cut her short.Without looking at the caller ID, she declined the call."It just occurred to me that Principal Lim-"Her phone started vibrating again, cutting her off for the second time. Still without looking at the caller ID, she declined it again. So, I was thinking-"Her phone interrupted her for the third time in less than a minute."Take the fucking hint!" she snapped in irritation. She picked it up, ready to decline it again, but the moment her eyes landed on the caller ID, her entire expression changed. The irritation was instantly replaced with admiration and a smile so genuine I thought was too good to be true. From my peripheral vision, I managed to catch the name saved on the screen.Mrs. Anderson."Hi, Kate," she greeted enthusiastically.Josh watched her with keen interest. Personally, I couldn't wait for her to finish the call and get back to her idea of helping me not get expelled."Oh my goodness, I'm

“Let’s talk about my fight with Dina,” I said, trying to drag them back to reality since both of them seemed completely lost in their own little world of banter. Belle immediately sat up straight and turned toward me. Josh looked at me too, a smirk playing on his face. “To be honest, that fight was savage.” A small smile slipped onto my lips. “Now’s not the time,” Belle said matter-of-factly, rolling her eyes at him. That only made me smile even more. “I think you’re going to get expelled though,” Josh added, his tone turning solemn. “Well, I’m here to make sure that doesn’t happen,” Belle countered instantly. I looked between the both of them. “Are you two using me as an excuse to banter?” Belle rolled her eyes. Typical. “Let’s get serious though,” Belle said, her expression shifting slightly. “What happened to you, Elora?” The smile slowly faded from my face as I wondered what exactly she meant. Was she asking about when I lost control and hit Dina back… O

*ELORA*Josh, Belle, and I sat at a table, waiting for our orders to arrive. As usual, Josh and Belle were busy teasing each other, while I just sat there, quietly replaying how unbelievably eventful my day had been.Josh had dropped me off earlier and waited at the porch until I walked into the house, like he was scared that if he drove off too soon, I’d run straight back to the hospital.I found that funny.Because really… what happened to the possibility of running back after he left?I didn’t, though.I slipped off my shoes at the doorstep, changed into my indoor slippers, and went straight to my room. The plan was simple: shower, rest, put a call across to my best friend, Maya, then meet up for dinner.I got into the shower and let the hot water run over me, easing the tension that had built up from everything that happened today.By the time I stepped out, I had a towel wrapped around my head and another loosely around my body.Without thinking, I flopped onto my bed.The weight

*THE AUTHOR'S POV*The morning sun hit the screen of Elora's phone, illuminating her best friend's face via video call."You're going to be fine, Elora. It's just a new school," Maya's voice crackled from thousands of miles away. "I've always known you to be one hell of a confident girl. Why is you

I picked up my iPad and began to scroll through it—going through my courses, notes, and outlines—trying so hard to ignore the figure that had just walked in, who somehow seemed to consume the entire space.Without even understanding what I was seeing on the screen, I dropped the iPad and picked up

“Girlllll, what the fuck was that? What’s wrong with you? You embarrassed me!”Belle continued to rant the moment we stepped out of the hall, and I knew for a fact—Belle was trouble. She didn't even wait until we're fully out of the hall. The words are already flying before the door swings shut beh

The hall was massive. The kind of space that could hold the entire school and then some. Polished floors reflected the bright sunlight streaming through the tall tinted windows, and the walls were lined with banners announcing achievements, trophies glinting under the artificial lights. Yet, despit
