It didn't take long for Adam to get to Olivia's apartment. A seven floored rugged looking building. It was better than his former lodging by far but the building was an average looking place in general. The off-white paint made it seem older than it probably was and the lack of large floor to ceiling windows gave it an ancient air compared to the modern look of the surrounding buildings on the street. “I don't know why I expected somewhere flashier.” The nervousness of going into Olivia's apartment clashed with the lingering arrogance from the clothing store. It had not been up to 48 hours when he had an empty bank account and could barely afford food. Now,

The days turned to weeks and everything seemed to become normal. It had been two weeks since the restaurant date with Olivia when Adam had gone to return her phone and had a conflict with the minions of the Lacoste family. The conflict had yet to expand to something more, but Adam had a feeling that he was being surveilled. He knew it was the calm before the storm.A lot of things had happened during the period. For one, he had officially moved to his new place. His former landlord, Roberts, had his eyes bulging out of his sockets when Adam along with a fairly reputable moving company had shown to move his belongings.Secondly, Adam's relationship with Olivia had grown more in the two weeks than it had ever done since he had met her. He already planned to officially ask her out at the start of the new year. The third was that Adam had grown to understand how the system worked. It didn't just reward any and all arrogance; instead only arrogance from being underestimated or arrogance th

Kareem shifted slightly in his chair but said nothing.Jerome leaned back, crossing one leg over the other.“We didn’t expect competition,” he said casually. “Especially not here.”Adam met his gaze. His eyes lingered on Adam for a moment before he turned back to Kareem.“We’ve already discussed terms earlier,” he said. “I assume nothing has changed?”Kareem hesitated.“I’m still considering options.”“Of course,” Jerome replied smoothly. “That’s why we’re here again.”He turned back to Adam.“Since you’re already here, we might as well be transparent.”Adam said nothing.Jerome continued.“My employer is willing to acquire full ownership. Clean transfer. No complications.”“And the valuation?” Adam asked.Jerome gave the number.Four hundred and eighty thousand.Adam noted it immediately. It was lower than what the assets justified; even in their current poor state.Kareem noticed it too.“That’s below what we discussed,” he said.“It reflects current performance,” Jerome replied cal

By the second day of ownership, Adam clearly understood something about his recently acquired business.Havenridge was worse than the reports had suggested. The problems weren’t individually catastrophic, but together they created a slow bleeding effect that had nearly strangled the company.Maintenance requests were delayed because approval chains were inefficient.Tenants ignored payment deadlines because nobody enforced penalties consistently. One building had a leaking pipe issue that had apparently existed for almost three months because two supervisors kept shifting responsibility to each other.Even worse, half the records of the company were poorly organized.Adam sat inside Kareem’s office while reviewing another stack of documents.“This company surviving this long is honestly impressive,” he muttered.Kareem gave a tired laugh from across the desk.“You’re beginning to understand my suffering.”Adam closed the file.“No,” he corrected calmly. “I’m beginning to understand yo

“Fuck!” With a smile on his face, Adam asked even though he already knew why. “Is anything wrong? Why the cuss?” “Is anything wrong?” Melissa turned to glare at him before gnashing her teeth together. “Nothing is wrong, boss. Just that your company is a dump. I'm already considering resigning from the job.” “Haha! If this company blows up, you'll get a fat paycheck. I promise.” “That paycheck better be very very fat.” The pair stood near the center of Havenridge’s office while Melissa slowly looked around the place like someone inspecting a crime scene. Which, to be fair, wasn't far from reality. The receptionist quickly straightened after noticing Melissa’s gaze sweep across her desk. Melissa walked toward it. “Where are the tenant complaint logs?” The receptionist blinked, “...the what?” Melissa slowly turned toward Adam. Adam looked away in embarrassment while trying to hold back his laughter. “You don't keep complaint records?” Melissa asked again. “We
