Adam arrived ten minutes early to the agreed upon location. That alone should have told him something was wrong… or perhaps unusual was a better word. Olivia's message from the previous day had been short. Don't make plans— she didn't even bother to give an explanation. It wasn't till the next morning that she gave a location which unexpectedly turned out to be a train station. There was no hint as to what she planned and the location was more confusing than a normal location should have been. Normally Adam would have asked questions. Why? Where are we going? Is something wrong? Instead, he found himself agreeing immediately which was probably another sign that something was wrong. The agreed meeting location was a train station near the center of the city. When Adam arrived, Olivia was already waiting. She stood near one of the entrances with her hands inside the pockets of a light jacket. Her hair was tied back loosely and she wore simple clothes that wouldn't att

Adam had every intention of following Olivia's instructions. That was why he found himself standing inside one of the largest electronics stores in the city less than an hour later. Technically, this still counted as resting. Or setting up the means of resting. At least that's what he told himself. The store occupied almost half a floor inside a shopping mall. Bright displays filled the area, showcasing everything from televisions and computers to gaming equipment and virtual reality systems. Adam walked past rows of products while casually looking around. He hadn't owned a game console since secondary school. Back then, every purchase had to be justified. He couldn't just go buy a console when he hadn't eaten for the day or hadn't paid his bills. There was always something more important. Now? He simply wanted one. There was no complicated reason for it. Just because it looked fun and that he realized he had been so busy with work he didn't have a means of relaxa

The first thing Adam did after waking up was check whether he still had over a million dollars in his account. It was. The second thing he did was stare at his new skill: Presence Amplification. It was somehow less helpful than yesterday till he saw an arrow next to the name which opened when he looked at it. [Presence Amplification] [Your confidence influences perception. Your words carry greater weight. People notice you more easily. Weak minds become hesitant. Strong minds become curious.] [Effect scales with Influence Tier.] Adam sat on the edge of his bed. "What does that even mean?" The System, as always, refused to elaborate. It had never been good at explanations. Most of the things Adam learned about it came from experimentation. The problem was that experimentation usually involved embarrassing himself in public. After getting ready, he drove to Havenridge. The office was already active when he arrived. Unlike the dead atmosphere he met when

Upon entering the office, Jerome recognized Adam Wilson immediately and his expression changed. It wasn't surprising to see the young man here— after all, they showed interest in the maintenance company just to serve as an obstacle for him. But something about Adam felt different. Jerome couldn't identify what exactly it was though. In the past, Adam felt like an promising upstart with big goals, but he now felt like a businessman with decades of experience. The young man looked the same. He had changed his dressing style to something worth an entrepreneur. But there was something else. A confidence that felt heavier than before. Jerome disliked the feeling. He also saw Melissa, the young woman who had rejected his offer but she hadn't changed a bit. If anything, Jerome would say she looked more tired. Despite his thoughts, Jerome walked into the office with his legal counsel in tow. Victor Hammond looked surprised. "Gentlemen." Jerome smiled. "Mr. Hammond."

Marcus stared at Adam for several seconds in the now quiet office. The silence wasn’t because anybody was afraid. At least that was what Marcus used to convince himself. The problem was that Adam wasn't acting the way he remembered. The old Adam used to sit across from him with tired eyes and empty pockets. This Adam looked like he had shown up to put a misbehaving employee in their place. Marcus hated it. He wasn't the kid's employee. "You've gotten bold." He finally broke the uncomfortable silence. Adam shrugged. "Enough with the charade. At this point, we'll be going around in circles." Marcus's face twitched. “You think you can walk in here and start acting like you run things?” Adam didn’t respond immediately. He leaned back slightly in the chair, eyes moving lazily across the room he had been scared to be invited into in the past. Then he spoke. “I don’t think so. I know you don’t run anything here.” The large collector shifted forward again, but this
