Pursuing My Rejected Luna のすべてのチャプター: チャプター 61 - チャプター 70

NicolaiI've been in this inn for three days, and I'm losing my damn mind. Not for the first time I find myself wondering what the hell is happening to me. I’ve built my reputation on being in control at all times, in all circumstances. In my line of work, it’s what keeps me alive. It’s why people fear me. I’m known for always having the upper hand.In the past three years since I took over the Woolf “family business” my control has never once wavered. Three years of feeling nothing, needing no one, then one word from her and I’m right back to that teenage boy, pining over a girl who was never meant to be mine. But it was seeing her again that truly sealed my fate. I’ve always found her beautiful, but in the time since I saw her last she’d become fucking stunning! All womanly curves and sexy as sin. I should have kept my distance, helped from afar and left it at that. But something about Skye Winters has always made me leap before I look. That’s my only excuse for finding myself in

JaxonWhen I left Skye the note saying I was leaving on pack business, it was a lie.I drove to my family's cabin in the mountains instead—a place I haven't been since before I took over for my father as Alpha. It’s the only place far enough from the pack that I could think without the weight of responsibility, of expectations, of Skye's hurt eyes following me through every room of the Alpha house.I spent two days there. Two days forcing myself to confront truths I'd been avoiding for three years. The cabin was cold when I arrived, dust covering every surface. But I didn't care. I built a fire, sat on the porch, and let Noah's words circle through my mind on an endless loop. You're still treating this like a problem to solve rather than a relationship to fix.He was right.Everything I'd been doing—monitoring Skye, threatening her, trying to control the situation—it was exactly what drove her away in the first place. And I'd been too blind to see it.I thought about the mate bond. Abo

SkyeI stare down at Jaxon kneeling on our bedroom floor, and I don't know what to feel.Anger? Vindication that he's finally admitting he was wrong? Exhaustion at the thought of trying again? All of the above?I just agreed to give him a chance. Said the words out loud. And now I have to figure out what that actually means.Jaxon stands slowly, his eyes never leaving my face. Searching for something—hope, maybe, or forgiveness I'm not sure I can give."Thank you," he says quietly. "For this chance. I know I don't deserve it.""No," I agree. "You don't."He flinches, but doesn't argue."I'm going to give you space," he says. "Like you asked. But Skye? I meant what I said. I'm going to try. Really try.""We'll see."He nods once, then leaves, closing the door quietly behind him.And I'm alone.I sink onto the edge of the bed, pressing my hands to my face. What did I just agree to?Giving Jaxon time. Another chance. After three years of coldness and neglect and outright cruelty.I don't

JaxonI'm failing. The realization hits me as I stand in an upscale boutique in town, staring at display cases full of jewelry with no idea what I should choose. Does Skye even wear jewelry?I'm trying to court my own mate, and I have no idea how. Fuck me sideways!"Can I help you find something?" The saleswoman approaches with a professional smile."I need a gift. For my wife.""Wonderful! What does she like? What's her style?"I open my mouth. Close it.What does Skye like?"She's... elegant," I try. "Classic."The saleswoman's smile doesn't waver, but I can see the pity in her eyes. She's dealt with husbands like me before. Husbands who know nothing about their wives."How about this?" She pulls out a diamond bracelet. Delicate. Expensive. The kind of thing that screams "I spent a lot of money because I don't know what else to do.""Perfect," I say, because what else can I say?I buy it. It costs more than most pack members make in a year. And it feels completely hollow. But it’s th

SkyeThe date of the summit is approaching fast. Too fast. There’s not enough time to prepare myself mentally for the challenge of managing Jaxon's jealousy and Nicolai's presence while maintaining the facade I agreed to with Jaxon. How am I supposed to figure out how to survive a weekend where everything I've been carefully controlling could explode in my face?I'm standing in front of my closet, reviewing my wardrobe options, when Jaxon appears in the doorway."I got you something," he says, holding out a small box.Another gift.I take it, already knowing I'll feel nothing when I open it. And as I suspected, inside is a delicate gold necklace with a small pendant. Expensive. Tasteful. Completely generic."Thank you," I say. "It's very pretty."I close the box. Set it on the dresser with the diamond bracelet I haven't worn. Is it heartless and ungrateful? Probably. I’m just too tired of pretending to care. Jaxon's face falls slightly. "You don't like it.""It's beautiful. Really."
