A RISK

I still can't shake off the expression Tarzan had on his face when I told him nothing would ever happen between us. It shouldn't have been hard for me to get past it, but his face was intense and scary—like he was broken deeply. I wonder if that was what I looked like when Mitch and those girls were messing around and I snapped. He was calm, expressing everything through his eyes, while I was yelling and crying. So maybe it wasn’t exactly the same. It’s not something that could be compared. He may be young, but he’ll move on soon. I don’t know if I’ll ever move on from Mitch. After Tarzan made that face, I couldn’t stand it, so I just walked away. I couldn’t face him, but I hope he understands. I did it not just because I’m a married woman, but because he’s a young man with so much potential—the kind of face that belongs on billboards and brand campaigns, with plenty of female admirers. Being a sugar boy is pathetic.I don't know what he was thinking by being intereste

A SARCASM OR NOT?

He pulled away, merging into traffic. For a moment, we drove in silence. Neither of us said a word. “So,” he began, his voice low and probing, “what’s the problem? Why did you leave like that and make him so worried? Yesterday was supposed to be his birthday, Lena. You know how much that means to him. It wasn’t fair.” I stared out the window, watching the city blur past. “Like I said, we… we had an argument. A misunderstanding. It was so silly of me. I just left the house without thinking.” “Where did you go?” His tone was casual, but I could hear the sharpening curiosity beneath it. “A… a friend’s place,” I lied, my voice faltering. I couldn’t tell him the truth—that I had almost done something reckless with another man, that a stranger had saved me from committing suicide. It would raise too many questions. “A close friend?” he pressed, glancing sideways. “Yes,” I said quickly. “A co-worker.” “I see.” He nodded slowly. “You should’ve at least answered your calls. Mitch sai

RELAX

“Your twin babies have grown into such adorable kids,” I told him. He laughed and shrugged off his suit jacket, then loosened his tie. “You mean those annoying little devils?” “Don’t call them annoying little devils,” I replied. He laughed again. “Well, they’re so full of energy.” He paused, rolling up his sleeves. “Sometimes it feels like hell having them around nonstop. It’s one of the things I envy about you and Mitch — you get to enjoy each other’s company without the constant childish chaos, at least for now.” I smiled sadly, the ache in my heart deepening. “That’s how you see it? It’s a lot more complicated than that, Jake.” “Care to share?” He sighed. “I know Mitch hasn’t been very kind to you lately. Honestly… he’s said a lot of demeaning stuff about you. I’ve always told him you’re one of a kind and that he should protect what he has.” He paused. “Well, I’m just saying… if you need someone to talk to, I’m here. I can be a friend — not just your husband’s.”

REJECTION

-TARZAN'S PRIVATE GYM HOUSE - MAIN MANSION-AUTHOR'S POVLoud grunts filled the gym hall, mixed with the impact of fists hitting punching bags.Tarzan's men were spread across the main floor, training hard. Some were sparring, exchanging punches and dodging attacks, while others were lifting weights. However, Tarzan was in his own world, surrounded by a thick glass wall, separated from the rest. His private training space was darker and quieter, except for the brutal sounds of his fists and feet slamming into the punching bags relentlessly. His muscles flexed with every movement, his arms and back glistening with sweat as he threw punch after punch.Thud. Thud. Thud. The bag shook violently, but Tarzan wasn't stopping. His knuckles ached under the tight hand wraps; nevertheless, he welcomed the pain.He needed it.Thanks to Lena. With an arched brow, he swung a hard right hook, his biceps straining, sending the bag flying sideways. Before it could swing back fully, he kicked it, makin

PERMISSION

Moreover, Tarzan wasn't done with his rage training. His jaw clenched as he reset his stance, his hands tightening into fists again.Another hit. Another. And another! Then he gave a kick, another jump kick, then a punch.Afterward, he paused. His breath was ragged, his chest rising and falling rapidly. Then, shortly, he repeated his movements again, but this time with more advanced techniques.A hard uppercut. A sharp kick. Another deep grunt. His movements were so aggressive that his muscles burned and his body screamed for rest, but he didn't care.Damon's jaw was on the floor like a starstruck fan watching his favorite idol. Finally, he snapped out of it and swallowed tightly."Shit. I better go stop him before he hurts himself," he said to himself and made to approach Tarzan, but an interruption came."Young master."The voice was a bit hesitant.Damon stopped and turned to the intruder. The man named Joe was in a black suit like the rest of the guards, protecting Tarzan's abando

HE WILL.KILL.YOU

LENA'S POV"Lena... Lena?"The voice drifted through the haze of my unconsciousness, pulling me up from the depths of a dreamless sleep like a hand reaching into dark water.I blinked, my eyelids heavy as lead weights. The first thing I saw was the blurry face of him. Jake. My husband's best friend. Standing at the foot of the bed.He was shirtless in his underwear.Water—or was it sweat?—glistened across his chest and shoulders, tracing the lines of his muscles in the dim light. His dark hair was disheveled, and there was something in his eyes I couldn't quite name. Something that made my stomach clench. Then— Oh God. The memories kicked inside my brain.I remember how I started feeling strange and sleepy after taking the drink that Jake offered me... and then darkness. My eyes widened. Could it be... something was in that drink? Why is he shirtless? Why am I on the bed? I shot upright, scrambling backward against the headboard. My hands fumbled for the duvet, yanking it u

WELCOME BACK

"Yes! My husband! I will tell him what kind of friend you are".I snapped.Jake's lips curled into something that wasn't quite a smile."Well, your lovely husband made the bet with me. A while ago."The room tilted."A bet?""He kept complaining about how ugly you've gotten and how he couldn't get it up looking at you. I told him he was just being mean, and we made a bet for me to give it a try. I lost.""You are lying!" I yelled, tears streaming down my face."I can call him, and we can ask him about it," he said boldly. My jaw dropped. I honestly tried to process that statement. His voice continued."I knew you're too foolishly in love with Mitch to ever fall for my advances. So I had to use a method your own husband suggested. Luckily for you, and unfortunately for me, I couldn't go through with it. Anyway."He reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled stack of bills. Tossed them onto the bed in front of me."There's some money. I know you won't let me drive you back, so t

UNCOMFORTABLE

My legs trembled as I stood. The floor felt unsteady beneath me, like I was walking on a ship in rough seas. I gripped the doorframe and stepped into the hallway. Just as I reached the top of the staircase, I heard a door open and then laughter. Familiar laughter. My heart stopped that instant, tears rushing into my eyes again. Mitch? I moved faster down the stairs, then stopped at the bottom as the living room opened up before me. "Man, it's been so long since I visited." Mitch was sitting beside Jake on the couch, a glass of amber liquid dangling from his fingers. Opposite them sat Timothy, another one of their friends. The three were laughing about something. Mitch looked comfortable. Relaxed. Like he hadn't spent a single second worried about where I was. I stood there at the bottom of the stairs, tears streaming freely down my face, and for a moment, I couldn't speak. The words lodged in my throat like broken glass. "Mitch... babe?" His head turned, then his eyes wid

I WAS LOYAL

MITCH’S POVWhen I stepped back into the house, Jake and Tim were still deep in conversation. The moment they noticed me, they fell silent—like I’d just walked in on them talking about me.“Mitch, everything okay with her?” Tim asked.I sighed and rubbed my temple. “Just the usual annoying shit. Lena cries over everything. Happy, sad, doesn’t matter—she’ll still cry. Don’t let it get to you. She acts way more immature than her age.”Tim leaned back in his chair. “I still can’t believe you two have only been together five years and she’s already let herself go like that. That’s exactly why I date women ten years younger. Can’t imagine ending up with someone who blows up like a blobfish.”I grabbed my drink, took a long sip, and let the burn settle in my throat.“I wish I’d had the luxury of thinking that far ahead,” I said. “Truth is, Lena and I go way back. We met as teenagers. Dated for two years before I left the country for college. The night I left, we made love for the first time

DEFINE LOVE

I met his eyes through the haze of cigar smoke.“Love is whatever you define it as. Do I love what she is now? No. Do I love who she used to be? Yeah. Is that so hard to understand?”Jake stared at me for a long second, then stood up.“I need a word with you. In private."I knew something was going on in his mind.He turns to Tim."Tim, we will be back soon"."Sure, man".Tim replied, focusing on the television.I stood up with my cigar and followed him as we stepped up the stairs to the second floor. Jake led me into the empty guest room at the end of the hallway and closed the door.He turned to face me, his expression dead serious.“Mitch, you have to be the luckiest man on earth to have someone like Lena.”I let out a dry laugh. “Which Lena? The one now or the one before?”He didn’t smile. “You need to accept the Lena that exists now. You’re in love with a ghost, man. She’s gone. That teenage girl from your past doesn’t exist anymore.”“It’s not a ghost,” I shot back. “It’s th
