Rebecca's POV The Erased humming never stopped. It made way through the ravine like a living thing, low and constant, rising and falling with the wind. At first it had sounded distant. Like it could be easy to ignore. Now it felt like it was inside my head. Evening had settle over the landscape. Fog was to the cliffs in its thickness, turning every shadow into another thing. The air felt cold against my skin. Every step went into mud that seemed determined to drag us back. Tyler leaned more heavily on me, his wound was getting worse. I could see it. The fresh bandages I'd wrapped around his side earlier were already stained dark with blood again. His breathing was in short, controlled release, and every few steps his face tightened with pain.
