Rohan’s POVPain now felt normal like it was part of my routine now these days. Every breath I took pulled against the healing wound wrapped around my ribs, and every movement reminded me of the day Rebecca lost control in the training yard. The healers said I was lucky to still be walking after taking a blast like that. But I wasn't feeling lucky. I lay my back on the cot in the healing wing, staring at the stone ceiling while Lira carefully unwrapped the bandages around my torso. Anyone in this room breathing could perceive the shape smell of herbal mixtures. Around us, wounded warriors adjusted on nearby cots while healers moved quietly and quickly between them. The entire wing felt heavier these days — too many whispers, too many frightened looks, too much tension hanging in the air.Lira pressed fresh herbs against my side, and I hissed through my teeth.“You’re healing, just slower than you wan,.” she said softly. “T

Rebecca’s POV As we journeyed further into the eastern regions, the world started looking more ancient. I did not even know there were old places like this.  The lush forests that surrounded us for days finally opened up into steep terrain filled with hills and jagged ridges that bore signs of destruction, partly reclaimed by the passage of time. Giant rocks were scattered all around with moss-covered inscriptions weathered from years of exposure to the elements. Even the atmosphere here was different. Heavier. Ancient. My lungs

Rebecca's POV It did not take long for the burden of what I had witnessed to sink in after we left the dark stone shrine. I was the one who saw what I saw. The rain turned into a chill, silver haze now showed between the trees. Rain continued to drip from the bent branches above, making its constant sound by striking the leaves and stones. It seemed less noisy around here somehow. Or perhaps it was me who was not hearing right. A slight slip of my feet in the mud puddles as I walked through a path in the hills. It was becoming tougher with every step as our path led us, dodging rugged rocks and old tree roots coming out of the ground. I just kept walking ahead. They didn’t ask questions any longer. The silver bracelet that had slipped on to my wrist seemed unusually heavy. Each time my thumb brushed against it, I remembered my mother. Then my father. Then the woman from the vision. The first hybrid. The Bridge. Tyler eventually moved up beside me. "Rebecca."

Jeremy Sinclair's POVThe war tent smelled of wet cloth, smoke from herbs being burned by the witches, and the stench smell of ancient blood. Nobody even noticed or maybe we were all just concentrated on our tasks.A steady rain fell on the tent’s canvas, the sound of drops collaborating with the night to create an eerie chorus of whispers and shadows. Dozens of lanterns were lit near the table where battle plans and decisions were made, throwing a faint glow over maps that were slightly stained.I was alone, standing at the middle of everything. My hands lightly touched the wooden tabletop, studying the papers laid before me. The red markers covered a greater distance east than just one week prior, marking victories gained, camps destroyed, warriors vanquished. But still I couldn’t look away from another red marker.Rebecca.Not just a name written on the map. A presence. A pull. A thread that refused to break. The mark beneath my skin pulsed faintly, responding to hers somewhere bey

Mira's POVThe healing wing no longer felt like a place where people recovered. It felt like a place where people waited.Waited for news.Waited for death.Waiting for confirmation from someone about whether the pack had a future anymore. The lanterns lighted weakly all night, throwing up lazy rays of light on beds full of people. The heavy odour of crushed herbs fought against the smell of blood, sweat, and fear. The fear always triumphed.I walked from bed to bed, delivering a plate of new poultices, trying to push away the fatigue that weighed down my every limb.A young fighter by the eastern wall moaned as I wrapped a fresh bandage around his shoulder."Just relax," I whispered. The cut would be healing much faster. Most wounds should have. But nobody slept properly anymore. Nobody rested. The entire pack felt sick. Not from injury. From uncertainty.I finished tying the bandage and turned to leave. The room was less noisy than usual. Not peaceful. Tense. Like everyone was liste
