EZRA'S POVI yawned and shut my eyes for just a few minutes. The flight was four hours long. I knew that because I counted most of them, even though it was not deliberate. I wasn't sitting there with a clock but my brain had decided sleep was not available so it decided to count. I had the feeling of dread as I accepted my reality that I was returning to that place that I had left with great intention and considerable planning in the back of a private jet with a dead vampire in cargo and my best friend asleep against my shoulder.Cole had been out within twenty minutes of takeoff. I envied that about him. The ability to just...go. To put his head down and let the situation wait while he recharged. I had never been able to do that peacefully. To sleep was even troublesome for me. Dorian was across the aisle with his eyes closed, which wasn't sleep either. I knew the difference after twenty years. Everyone was in their different sitting positions and nobody said anything to each other.

EZRA'S POVThe dining room however looked slightly different. It had a bit of color, maybe it was the lighting but everything else? Pfft, the same. It had been maintained across centuries by Caelan. There was a long table and rows of a few chairs surrounding it. We sat down. Caelen at the head while the four brothers distributed along the sides. Cole stuck to my side like a glue which I found very comforting. The food was real and good. Caldenmoor food had always been. Caelen never joked with good meals, mostly for me because he could go days without eating as long as he had blood to drink. Regardless of who was eating, whenever need be, the kitchen took its work seriously. An aged woman came out of the kitchen and I recognised her instantly. Ana. Her eyes shimmered upon seeing me and a big smile graced her face. She quickly put the plates on the table and came over to my side and hugged me tightly. Her motherly perfume filled my nostrils, calming my nerves down quickly. "Ezra

EZRA'S POVI came downstairs along with Cole by my side and the first thing...or rather, the person that greeted me was Riven. "Good morning." He moved closer and kissed my forehead. "How was your night?" He added. I was flabbergasted for a few minutes and turned my head sharply to Cole who was making noises underneath with the hope of teasing me. "What? Don't you like it? I thought it might be something you'd love since we are mates." He spoke up and kissed my cheek suddenly again. I bit my lower lip, unable to hide my reaction. It took me by surprise so much that I didn't even know what to say or how to react. "Don't scare him." Lucien warned from the table. He pulled the chair backward. "For you, my darling." He gestured and I furrowed my brows. "They are being exceptionally nice." I whispered to Cole. "Isn't that a good thing? You have four gigantic striking vampires at your call and ready to do whatever you want, isn't that heaven on earth?" "I do

COLE'S POVI watched Dorian put Ezra gently on the bed and covered him with a blanket. It was almost noon. I had gone to search for Ezra after he had been gone for hours. Everyone except Dorian had left the mansion for something else. Since no one was around to let me know what else could go wrong, I wanted to make sure that he was alright when I saw him crying in Dorian's arms. I felt pity for him and just had to stay out of the way. "Is he going to be alright?" I asked Dorian. "Yes, he will. He is just completely overwhelmed right now. That's it." He answered and touched Ezra's face delicately. Among the quad, I believed Dorian to be the one who was the most connected to Ezra. Each of them had a part of the hole to fill but for Dorian? I just don't know...he was different. "How else do you think we can help him?" I asked him. Dorian stood up and pressed his lips on Ezra's forehead and adjusted the blanket again. Then he faced me. "You should have an answer for t

AUTHOR'S POVThe darkness that covered Ezra arrived the way deep sleep sometimes did without any announcement or transition. It was one moment ordinary and the next, something else entirely. Ezea stood in the middle of it. He looked at the situation with confusion. The last time he remembered this, he was on his bed and now...?Where was this place? It didn't feel like a dream. It didn't feel like a place that was invented but rather, it felt real. He was in a pit. The walls were earth, dark and packed. It was so close enough on all sides that he could have touched them with an outstretched arm. The smell reached him before anything else did. It was damp and the place smelt of rottenness. It was deeply wrong, like the smell of a place that hadn't seen air in a long time and had stopped expecting to. He looked up. High above was a distance that made the opening look small. A shaft of light came down from the sky and fell in a single column, pale and direct, illuminating the floor of
