Chapter Seventy-One

Aria's POVDarkness wrapped around me, as thick and suffocating as a weighted blanket. It felt like I was sinking into a bottomless pit. I tried to move, to claw my way back to the surface, but it felt like I was trapped in quicksand. Flashes of my life began to swirl around me, as if my entire existence was playing out in slow motion. I saw Edward, my precious baby boy, his tiny hands reaching for me. I saw Denderick, his eyes filled with love as he reached out to me. I saw the pack, the chaos, the death.Mia."Aria..." The voice was faint, distant, like it was coming from the other side of a thick brick wall."Aria, come back to us..." It was the same voice, but closer and more urgent. My mind struggled to focus, to latch onto the sound."Please... we need you..." "Edward needs you..."The voice grew louder, insistent, pulling me back from the brink. My heart ran miles in my chest, and with a sudden gasp, I snapped back to consciousness. My eyes flew open, and I squinted as sunlig

Chapter Seventy-Two

Giselle's POVThe mercenary was yet to come.I stood by the window, fingers drumming impatiently on the sill, waiting for the knock on my door that I knew was coming. Finally, it came. Three sharp raps, exactly as we had agreed. I crossed the room quickly, yanking the door open to reveal the mercenary. His hulking frame filled the doorway, his face shadowed by the hood of his cloak. He stepped inside without waiting for an invitation. My heart pounded in my chest, half with anticipation, half with something close to fear."Is it done?" I demanded in a whisper. I didn’t dare speak louder, as if the walls themselves might betray me.The mercenary didn’t answer immediately. He simply reached into the folds of his cloak and pulled out a blood-stained knife, holding it up for me to see. My breath caught in my throat at the sight of it."So, she’s dead?" I asked, my voice shaking slightly despite my best efforts to remain calm. "She is finally dead?"The mercenary’s gaze flicked up to meet

Chapter Seventy-Three

Aria's POVI woke up to the sound of birds chirping softly outside the window, but the warmth of the morning did nothing to ease the cold dread sitting in my chest. Mia's face flashed in my mind, her lifeless eyes staring up at me, frozen in time. I squeezed my eyes shut, hoping to push the image away, but it was useless.Mia was dead. And it should've been me.All the events of the past day washed over me as I sat up. Denderick had saved me, but he hadn't been able to save her. She had died because of me, all because she was my friend because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. If it hadn't been for me, Mia would still be alive, smiling, laughing... breathing. I clenched the sheets, my knuckles turning white. Why her? Why not me?A small whimper snapped me out of my spiraling thoughts. Edward. My son. I rolled over to where he lay beside me, still asleep. His tiny chest rose and fell with each soft breath, so peaceful and unaware of the darkness lurking around us. He wa

Chapter Seventy-Four

Aria's POVI didn't waste any time. My hands trembled as I grabbed the few things I had-clothes for Edward, a small blanket, whatever else I could fit into a small, wolfskin bag. My heart was racing, pounding in my ears so loudly it felt like it would explode. I couldn't stay here any longer. Denderick's words echoed in my mind, and it was like a knife twisting in my chest. How could I have been so blind?I moved quickly, not bothering to fold or organize anything. There was no time. Edward was still sleeping soundly, his little body curled up in the center of the bed. I would wake him when we were ready to go. "Denderick can have his Luna Giselle," I muttered under my breath, throwing another shirt into the bag. "I won't stay here another second."The room was quiet except for the sound of my frantic movements. I paused for a second, taking in a deep breath, trying to calm the storm of emotions raging inside me. But it was no use. I had to get out of here. I had to protect Edward f

Chapter Seventy-Five

Aria's POVI woke with a start, my whole body aching. The first thing I noticed was the cold, hard ground beneath me. My head throbbed, and the air smelled damp, almost suffocating. I tried to move, but every muscle felt stiff. Even my arms were heavy like they were made of stone. Slowly, I opened my eyes, blinking against the dim light that filtered into the space.Where was I?I pushed myself up, my hands slipping on the slick surface beneath me. It was wet and cold. My eyes darted around as I took in my surroundings. I was in a small enclosure. The walls were made of rough stone, with moisture dripping down in places. The cell was cramped, the floor covered in grime, and the air smelled musty like the earth itself had trapped me. Above me, there was a small opening, a window of sorts. Light poured in from it, casting eerie shadows on the walls. The faint trickle of water echoed, and it dawned on me.We were underground. A well, maybe. Trapped.I wasn't alone. I looked around and

Chapter Seventy-Six

Aria's POVMy heart raced as the women's words echoed in my mind. Alpha Logan was behind the kidnappings? I couldn't believe it at first. But as the shock settled in, the memories began to flood back.Alpha Logan had always had that sinister edge, even when I was with him. I remembered the abuse I had suffered in his hands, when I was pregnant, and even after. I would never put it past him.I remembered how the disappearances had started when I was still with Logan. Pregnant women from the nearby villages had gone missing, and I had brought my concerns to him. I had been scared, terrified even, but Logan had dismissed me with a wave of his hand. "You're imagining things, Aria," he had said. "Stay out of it, it's not your concern." I had wanted to believe him, but now...I couldn't ignore the truth any longer.I was trapped in this underground nightmare with the other women, barely holding on to hope, and soon, we were told someone was coming to inspect us. My stomach churned at the t

Chapter Seventy-Seven

Aria's POVI sat against the cold wall of the cell, hours after Logan left. The other women were still, lost in their despair, but I couldn't shake the feeling that we were running out of time. I understood everything now; Logan wasn't planning on keeping us alive for long. I could sense it in the way the guards looked at us like we were less than human.I had to act. I had to get these women out of here, somehow."We need to talk," I announced, my voice cutting through the oppressive silence. Sara, who had become the closest thing to an ally in this place, looked up at me with tired eyes. "What's the point, lady? They'll come for us sooner or later.""That's exactly why we need to move now," I said, standing up, and pacing in the small space. "We can't just sit here and wait to be taken. They're expecting us to give up, but if we work together, we can turn the tables on them."The other women stirred, glancing at each other. For the first time since I woke up in this nightmare, I sa

Chapter Seventy-Eight

Aria's POV"WHO LET THESE WOMEN FREE?!"We all froze in our tracks as the loud, angry voice reached us. Logan. He'd discovered our escape."Run!" I shouted, my voice breaking the stillness of the night. "Go!"The women didn't hesitate. They sprinted toward the tree line, disappearing into the forest. I followed close behind, my heart pounding in my chest.Freedom was within reach. We just had to keep moving. Keep running. And I wasn't going to stop until we were safe. Until Edward was back in my arms.I watched as the women, one by one, shifted into their wolf forms, disappearing into the dense forest. They were moving so fast, S though they wanted to catch their freedom. My heart soared for them, knowing that they were getting away, escaping the horrors of this place. It was almost my turn. I could feel the pull of my wolf stirring within me, ready to break free, but just as I was about to shift, a hand gripped my arm, yanking me back with such force that I stumbled."Where do you t

Chapter Seventy-Nine

Denderick's POVIt had been hours already. The fork in my hand paused halfway to my mouth, the eggs on my plate suddenly less appetizing. I couldn't remember the last time I'd seen Aria. My mind flicked back to yesterday, then the day before. It had to have been at least twenty-four hours since I'd last caught a glimpse of her. Something inside me curled in unease. I shoved the plate aside, the sound of metal scraping against wood grating against my nerves. After our last conversation, when she'd complained about Giselle, I hadn't seen any sign of her. What was she up to now? Aria had a way of disappearing, thinking no one noticed, but I always noticed. "Dammit," I muttered under my breath as I pushed back from the table and stood. I needed to find her. My head was already throbbing with everything going on in the pack and the Council lately, and now Aria had just disappeared. I stepped out of the dining hall, my frustration mounting, and that's when I saw her. Giselle. She was hea

Chapter Eighty

Denderick's POVI paced back and forth, running a hand through my hair, my mind spinning with everything that had gone wrong. Aria was still missing, and the more time passed, the more certain I became that something terrible had happened. I was so distracted that I didn't even hear the door open until Giselle's voice cut through the silence."Denderick?" she sneered. "You're still obsessing over her?"I stopped pacing and turned to face her. Giselle stood in the doorway, arms crossed, her lips pressed into a thin line. There was fire in her eyes-fury, jealousy, all of it radiating off her in waves. I didn't have time for this. Not now."What do you want, Giselle?" I asked, my voice flat, exhausted. She stepped into the room, her movements deliberate, every step calculated. "What do I want?" she repeated, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "I want to know why the hell you're so obsessed with that girl. You're pacing around here like she's the center of your world, while your own Luna-you
