Chapter 1

Ellie’s P.O.V. The first whisper didn’t reach me. It brushed past me like wind, disappearing under the soft melody of violins and the scent of flowers decorating the grand hall. But the second whisper lingered. And then the third one… grew teeth. “…did you see that?” “…is that really her?” “…play it again.” My fingers tightened around the bouquet, petals trembling under my grip. “Calm down, Ellie.” I forced myself to breathe. “Weddings are overwhelming. Guests talk. It’s normal.” But this didn’t feel normal. Everything was exactly like I had dreamt about. Yet now, hundreds of eyes watched me with something between pity and disgust. And Jared… wasn’t even looking at me. Standing at the altar in his tailored black suit, he stared at his phone with a cold expression, just like everyone else in the room. I quickened my steps, nearly tripping over the hem of my gown before finally reaching him. “What’s going on?” I whispered. Jared slowly lifted his gaze. And stupidl

Ellie’s P.O.V. “Leave? No!” I blurted out before I could organize my thoughts. “Dad, please. Grandma is dead. I don’t have anywhere to go…” But my dad didn’t even let me finish. “You should have thought about it before, Ellie.” His face darkened with fury. “Do you have any idea what you have done? You humiliated both the Walton and Hunt families in front of the entire city.” His every word pierced into my soul like pointed needles. Tears rolled down my cheeks. “It wasn’t that…” My stepmom interrupted, placing a calming hand on Dad’s shoulder. “Scolding her won’t fix anything, Camryn.” Her cold eyes landed on me. “But mistakes can still be corrected.” Dad frowned. “What are you suggesting, Susan?” “The Walton family won’t let this go easily after today’s humiliation,” She said calmly. “But perhaps… they’ll reconsider the alliance if we compensate them properly.” “Compensate them?” Dad repeated. “Yes.” She folded her hands in her lap. “We still have something they can’t

Chapter 3

Ellie’s P.O.V. The moment I looked up, my heart paused. That man was not old. He wasn’t weak, fragile, or anything like the rumors surrounding Zackary Walton. The young man standing near the door looked handsome in a way that felt illegal. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and dressed in a black shirt with the top buttons undone. And those eyes… Amber! Not soft golden brown, but deep amber that glowed under the dim lights like something wild hiding beneath a human’s skin. For several seconds, my brain completely failed to function. This couldn’t be him… The entire city talked about Zackary Walton. He was a sick old man hidden from society after that scandalous downfall. But that man in his early thirties looked powerful enough to destroy people with a single glance. His observant gaze moved over me, scanning me unapologetically. I clutched the fabric of my gown and stood up, my voice steady. “A-Are you Zackary Walton?” He raised his eyes to face me, his

Chapter 4

Ellie’s P.O.V. I didn’t sleep that night. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Zack's amber eyes and heard his mocking voice. I turned on my side, pressing my face into the pillow, forcing myself to think about someone else. My husband! Zackary... and then his son, Zack. A chill ran down my spine at his name. Why didn’t Jared ever mention Zack? Why didn’t that lawyer say anything about Zackary's family? Such random queries lingered longer than they should have, a fragile attempt to process everything. By morning, I gave up trying and sat up, sighing. “If my husband is in the hospital, I should meet him.” After getting ready, I gathered information from the staff and went to see Zackary before afternoon. The drive to the hospital felt completely different in daylight. The same road that had seemed dark and endless last night now looked peaceful. Tall, luscious green trees lined up the path, beautiful flowers adding color along the edges. I leaned towards the wi

Chapter 5

Ellie’s P.O.V. Exhaling sharply, I turned. Zack stood a few steps away, one hand in his pocket, the other loosely holding his phone. There wasn’t a speck of concern on his face. His keen gaze moved over my face, scanning me, as he added casually. “I came to visit Dad. Didn’t realize I had walked into a storm.” Heat crept up my neck. I looked away. “You can go back to your day. I don’t need an audience.” Although I expected him to leave, the sound of deliberate footsteps approached me. I glanced at the side. Zack moved beside me now, leaning against the car as his one arm rested casually along the roof. He inched closer, close enough that I could smell his expensive perfume. “I wasn’t aware this requires an invitation.” He whispered. “Next time, I will be careful.” I took a step back instinctively, my heart racing. To ignore that six feet three inches of pure masculinity, I reached into my bag and pulled out a tissue, focusing on wiping the last traces of t

Chapter 6

Zack’s P.O.V. The Hunt family sent a bride to the White mansion? That matter alone was suspicious! I leaned back in my chair, fingers resting lightly against the armchair as the city stretched beneath the glass office of my house. Quiet and controlled, unlike the situation of this arranged marriage. My gaze drifted to the file lying open on the table. Ellie Hunt Age: twenty-one “How convenient!” A humorless smile tugged at my lips. “Interesting!” This whole settlement didn’t look like a coincidence. I had learned long ago that the most dangerous traps arrived disguised as opportunities. Then why? Why would the Hunt family send their daughter here? A soft knock broke the silence, interrupting my thought process. I straightened up. “Come in.” The door opened, and Mr. Charles stepped inside, carrying a folder identical to the one already in front of me. “Mr. Walton.” He greeted me politely, adjusting his glasses. “Everything has been

Chapter 7

Ellie’s P.O.V. What the hell was wrong with Zack? Anger coiled in my chest as his accusation played in my head on repeat, challenging my restraint. I couldn’t even believe he accused me of stealing his family property. Like how? How could I steal anything from him when my own life was in shambles? “Unbelievable! I groaned, pacing restlessly in my room, frustration boiling. Zack’s calm face flashed in my mind, his signature smirk pouring gasoline over the fire of fury. Zack Walton was rapidly becoming the biggest source of stress in my life. Lost in thoughts, I flinched as a sudden knock on the door interrupted my anger session. I paused. “Come in.” The door opened and the maid, Lilly, stepped inside, her posture as composed as ever. “Madam,” she said politely. “Can you please come to the living room and attend to a guest? He wishes to see Mr. Walton and…” Although she left her sentence incomplete, I understood it. My voice came out steadier, unlike the chaos inside

Chapter 8

Ellie’s P.O.V.My heart betrayed me again, like it always did.The moment Zack called my name, something inside me stumbled, like it forgot how to function. And seriously, I hated that.Hated him for it even more!I forced myself to breathe, to steady the rush in my chest, and turned toward him, ready to snap…But those eyes! His ember gaze held mine, like he was already watching something far more interesting than I was comfortable with. For a split second, I faltered… But then, I swiftly caught myself. My expression hardened.“I am allergic to rude jerks,” I shot back at him, my voice sharp despite the uneven rhythm of my heartbeat. “Every time you open your mouth, you remind me why I should stay miles away from you.”Zack’s lips curved in amusement. That infuriating smirk deepened, slow and deliberate, like he had expected nothing less.“Good to know your preferences.” He murmured, his warm, faintly minty breath brushing against my face. I glared at him, refusing to react the

Ellie’s P.O.V.My mind barely rested after the message I sent to Maria. The possibility alone had left a bitter weight in my chest. And now, standing before the tall window watching the ambulance arrive…I had no energy left to untangle Jared and Alice’s secrets.Although Zack told me about his dad, I couldn’t trust him at all. But the moment that ambulance pulled through the mansion’s gate, it occurred to me.He wasn’t lying! That infuriating, arrogant man… had actually told the truth.I stood at the window, watching the staff moving quickly around, unloading equipment and stuff. My fingers curled around the grill. So, that was it.The man whose name I had signed beside. The man I married without seeing. The man who had turned my life upside down in a single night. My husband… It was time to meet him…A strange unease twisted inside me, making my heart heavy. Taking a steady breath, I walked out of the room to face my real life. The mansion felt different now, alive. Servants mo

Chapter 10

Zack’s P.O.V.The numbers of the file blurred even after reading for the third time.Across the desk, Mr. Charles stood with his arms crossed, a smile playing on his lips like he had just witnessed something amusing,I didn’t look up immediately, letting him smile all he wanted. But even after five minutes, he was still there, smiling. My patience thinned.“Why are you standing there and smiling like that for the last thirty minutes?” l lifted my gaze, pinning him in place.“Don’t you have anything better to do?”His grin widened. “No,” he said without hesitation. “Not when I get to witness a rare event.”I leaned back in my chair, unimpressed. “And what exactly is that?”Mr. Charles adjusted his glasses, his tone light but deliberate. “The day legendary Zackary Walton is proven wrong.”I studied him for a moment calmly.“It was a one-time occurrence. She came prepared for it.”His brows lifted in surprise,“Oh,” he asked, almost amused. “So, there will be a next time?”I didn’t he
