PrologueNessa’s povI was exhausted tonight, but I had no right to rest.I had just returned from the neighboring town of Raven Hollow, where I delivered bread every day to earn a little money. The basket I carried was heavy, but the weight in my chest was even heavier because of my mother’s condition. She had severe pneumonia. For almost a month, she had been coughing badly, burning with fever every night, and struggling to breathe. Sometimes, I woke up in the middle of the night because I could hear her gasping for air, trying to hide her coughing so I would not worry. I had already taken her to the clinic, but she did not get better. Her condition came back and became worse even after the antibiotics. Every night, her cough grew heavier, and her breathing became more painful.I was terrified of losing my mother. She was all I had.It had always been just the two of us since my father was killed by a wolf in the forest while hunting many years ago. I was still young then, but I cou

Chapter 2The next morning, I woke up early to go to town. I rode my old bicycle and carried my worn-out bag. When I arrived, the incredibly long line at the covered court made me dizzy. Hundreds of women from nearby towns crowded the area. Everyone wore their best clothes. They all hoped to get the job because it paid a lot of money for just one night. I heard girls whispering about how rich the family organizing the party was. For many of them, this was a chance to experience wealth and visit the city they only saw on TV. They probably hoped to catch a rich man to escape poverty."Line up properly! Get your IDs ready!" a uniformed guard shouted. The line moved slowly. I waited for hours under the hot sun before I finally got inside the court. At the far end, interviewers sat at a long table. But the person who caught everyone's eye was a woman sitting right in the center. She did nothing but watch the crowd. She wore a formal black suit, her hair was tied in a neat bun, and she stoo

Chapter 4Nessa’s POVMatthew stood tall, staring intensely at me. He did not understand why a sudden, explosive anger consumed him the moment he saw me wearing such a revealing outfit."I-I'm sorry, Sir... This was the uniform given to me," I explained with a trembling voice. I forced myself to lift the tray to cover my chest as much as I could. He did not answer me. Instead, he coldly turned his gaze to one of his bodyguards."Call the event manager up here. Right now."The man by his side moved quickly. After a few minutes of me standing there like a statue, the manager arrived running. He was a heavy-set man who was completely drenched in sweat. He was clearly terrified of the billionaire's presence.I stared in shock. This was not the manager I had spoken to earlier. Why was it someone else? I swallowed hard."M-Mr. Arizmendi! Is there a problem with the service, boss?" the manager asked, stuttering and bowing his head.Matthew glared at him. His voice cut through the air like ic

Chapter 6Nessa’s POVI ended up in a dark, cramped alley beside the gigantic hotel. I sank down onto the cold concrete, surrounded by the blaring horns of New York traffic and the towering walls of skyscrapers. There, I finally burst into tears. I had no idea how we were going to get home. I didn’t have a single cent on me because I didn’t get paid, and I had no money for fare back to our province. I had hoped everything would go well and that I would return with money. I should have made sure first.Beside me, Zarek sat whimpering and restless, as if he could feel the deep ache in my heart. My mind was an absolute mess, worrying about how I would face my mother without any money. I would only disappoint her.Because I was crying so hard and overthinking, I lost track of my surroundings. When I finally calmed down a bit and looked to my side, Zarek was gone."Zarek?!" My eyes widened. A sudden panic seized me, and I screamed.I stood up immediately and ran blindly through the dark al

CHAPTER 8 Nessa’s POV That growl did not come from an ordinary animal. It echoed through every corner of the massive office, powerful enough to make the expensive glass windows of The Grand Arizmendi Plaza tremble. My heart tightened as a strange energy suddenly filled the air, a force unlike anything I had ever felt in my entire life. It was as if an invisible weight had descended upon the office, making it difficult for all of us to breathe. “Zarek… don’t, my son. Please, that’s enough, my baby…” I whispered weakly, my voice shaking with fear as I quickly dropped to my knees on the luxurious carpet. My trembling hands desperately pulled the little puppy back inside my jacket. I held him tightly against my chest, trying to protect him from whatever danger his actions might bring. My heart pounded wildly inside my chest. Every passing second felt like a countdown to armed guards bursting through the doors to hurt us. I squeezed my eyes shut, fighting back my tears as I held the
