Elsie’s POV I had been pestering the head healer for hours, begging her to tell me what possible consequences there might be if my heat got forcefully suppressed. But the old woman wasn't being very generous with her responses. She only offered reassuring, vague statements like, "It will be completely fine, child," or "Nothing permanently damaging," and "You will survive it."I didn't like what the word ‘survive’ connotes at all. To me, surviving just meant you would come terribly close to dying, but then somehow manage not to actually die. Something awful like that.My only real comfort—and the single thing keeping my rising rage in check—was the fact that I could faintly feel our bond humming in my chest. Through it, I knew the King was greatly disturbed right now, whether by these new developments, what he felt forced to do, or both. Who knew which it really was with him?The head healer had gotten straight to work, throwing dried roots and leaves over a small fire in a clay pot.
