JUNEThe first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was Rick.He was asleep on his stomach, one arm stretched across my side of the bed like even in sleep he expected to find me there. Morning light spilled through the curtains, soft gold sliding over his bare shoulders, over the silver strands beginning to appear at his temples.I tried not to think about it, but I did so anyway.Ten years since we started with nothing but a tiny apartment, unpaid bills, and promises whispered against exhausted mouths at two in the morning. Now he was the CEO of a company people talked about on television. We lived in a house so big I still occasionally lost things inside it. Angel attended one of the best schools in the city. We had staff, investments, and stability. We had a life. And somehow, after all this time, I still loved watching him sleep. I smiled to myself and carefully slipped out of bed so I wouldn’t wake him.The floor was cold beneath my feet as I tied my robe around my waist and headed

JUNEFate had to be mocking me. There was no other explanation for this kind of cruelty. My father had warned me from the very beginning, and somehow that made everything hurt worse.I gripped the steering wheel so tightly my fingers ached while tears blurred the road ahead of me.I could still hear my father’s voice from years ago. I tried to block it out, but all my efforts were beyond futile. You are at the peak of your career, June. Don’t throw your life away for a man you barely know. But I hadn’t listened. Back then, I thought he simply didn’t understand love. I thought he was being unreasonable and difficult, but now, I realized maybe he had understood it far better than I did.A sob climbed painfully up my throat as I remembered the first day I met Rick so clearly it made me sick.He had been brought into the emergency room covered in blood after a car accident. I’d performed his surgery myself. Six hours standing over his body while monitors beeped around us and nurses rushed

JUNEI pushed the front door open slowly and stepped inside the house that had once felt like the safest place in the world. Now it felt unfamiliar and cold, like I was walking through a stranger’s life. The silence pressed against my ears as I dropped my bag beside the couch and stood there staring blankly ahead.Memories hit me one after another so fast it hurt.I remembered Rick’s mother trembling with fever while I stayed awake for three nights straight taking care of her, his sister crying over anatomy textbooks while I sat beside her for hours tutoring her because she wanted to go into medicine too, and Angel curled against my chest after nightmares.I brought her lunches at school, did her laundry, and attended her doctor appointments, parent teacher meetings, birthdays, Christmases and even family dinners.Ten years. I'd spent ten years of giving and giving until I had nothing left of myself.A broken laugh escaped my throat when I finally understood why Rick never wanted anot

JUNEWhen I returned home, my father didn’t say I told you so and that alone nearly broke me again. The moment I stepped through the gates with my suitcase in hand, he walked toward me without hesitation and pulled me into his arms.I cried like something inside me had finally shattered beyond repair. I knew I was only hanging by a single thread, but I didn't think this was all I needed to finally let it all loose.Sobs raked my entire being as tears slid down my cheeks, but he didn't pull away. Father simply held me tighter with one hand against the back of my head like he used to do when I was little.“It’s okay, darling” he said softly. “You’re home now, everything's okay.”For some strange reason, that made me cry harder, because nothing was okay. Not really. My life had just been shattered in the blink of an eye, and here he was, comforting me like I still had a tiny bit of hope to hold on to.I stayed locked inside my room for an entire week afterward, and my father let me.He

DANTE“Send me everything you can find out on what Angelo has been up to lately. I want to know what that fucker plans to do next before he does it.” I whispered to Enzo as he took a seat next to me.He nodded, pouring himself a drink and I lifted a brow.“Are you…”“Listening? Of course, I am boss. You know I always listen.” He smirked then took a big gulp of the same drink I had.If he didn't act like a damn child half the time, I wouldn't be bothered to ask if he had heard me.And right now, he was indeed acting like a damn college kid.It didn't take long for a waiter to come to our booth with more drinks. And in tow behind him were some girls I knew were here to catch their client for the night. And Enzo was more than happy to welcome both the drinks and the ladies, making room for them to sit close to him.He knew better than to make any of them try to touch.I'd made a reputation for myself here by now. Every woman, except she was a newbie around here, knew not to touch me.My

JUNEI woke slowly, stretching my arms and felt them glide against something hard. My eyes snapped open right then, beside me on the bed was a man.Shit, shit. Fucking shit.I was not one to curse but shit. How did I end up here? The scene from the night before came rushing in. I groaned from the pounding headache, then turned to look at the man on the bed beside me.He was handsome, hot even. If I wasn't such a mess, he looked like the type of man I'd want to spend some time with.I smiled to myself, my body ached from last night but in a good way. Thank God the alcohol didn't dull down my memories from the night before. This stranger was gentle, and it was the best sex I'd ever had. Not that I'd had many.“It's a shame you're a call boy…” I murmured to the sleeping stranger before slipping out of bed, searching for my clothes as subtly as I could. He stirred in his sleep when I started to slip my chest and I swear my heart almost ripped out of my body.I stood frozen, too scared to

DANTEI didn’t think I slept a wink last night. My body pulled me into the bliss more times than I could count but I couldn’t afford to.Last night was the best fucking night of my life. I didn’t dare miss even the slightest moment. So I stayed awake, staring at her sleeping form, planting kisses any and every where I could.Creepy, I know. I just couldn’t help myself. Not when she was in my bed.Not when she fucking told me she was never married. I knew I had to have a long conversation with Enzo on why the fuck he said that she was. But that could wait another time.Right now, the dark was for me and her alone. That was why I took my time with her even though every part of me wanted to be ferocious with her. I forced the obsessive beast inside me to calm down, then as gently as I could, I made love to her.It was somewhat slow, and passionate I couldn’t wait to do it again. And I will. When morning came, I watched her stir awake. I shut my eyes and pretended to be asleep. I had no f

DANTEI was tempted to say something fucked up right now. But that was a one way ticket to ruining my one shot at making June mine. I could be ruthless in many ways, I didn’t want to be with them at all.I was going to need his help and he didn’t even know it. He will soon, no worries.I fixed the politest smile I could. If that was even the right way to say it. Once again, I tugged on my tie, I swear I couldn’t wait to take this fucking shit off.I always disliked the idea of wearing it, my people knew this already.“Thank you for having me on short notice, Mr. Cross.” I stretched a hand out to shake him. For a man his age, his grip was firm. A silent message between us that I recognized. He wasn’t the type to be easily swayed and deceived, however genuine he was.But no matter, I’d find ways around it. Now that I knew whose father he was, I was here to stay like a fucking leech, he’d have no other choice but to call me his son.“No, no, it’s my pleasure, please sit.” I did, finally

JUNE“Hello to you too stranger…” he smiled his white teeth blinding my vision for a second. “You left without a word…” he added, twisting the door knob and pushing his flushed body on mine into my new office. It was clean, untainted but about to be.I pressed both hands on his chest about to push him off but he kind of sensed what I was about to do so he held both wrists and forced my arms apart, as if nailing me to the wall. The position was awkward, but hot at the same time. Especially with the way he was looking at me. His eyes flickered between my lips and my eyes I was tempted to snap at him, to ask him to fucking pick one.Okay, June, no more cursing.I’d decided years ago that cursing was vulgar and I didn’t do vulgar. For my own sake and sanity, I had decided to be proper. More so because I wanted to be a better woman for Rick and Angel.Sacrificing my career for a family that regarded me as nothing but a maid. Made me lose myself, kept me imprisoned in a loveless relationshi

JUNERick stood in the doorway waiting for an answer. I’d been so distracted by Dante that the pain from Rick’s mother slapping me was long forgotten. It had been throbbing, I just didn’t feel it with him because something else throbbed.“I asked you a question June. Who was that man?” I wondered what gave him the right to ask me that question when he had been the one lying and fooling around with another woman.“And what gives you the right to ask me that question, Rick? Who are you to question who I converse with?” I asked genuinely curious.Had he forgotten that he watched his mother slap me across the face right after I saved Angel’s life? Had he forgotten how he stood there and did nothing until I hit her back?“I’m your husband, that’s who I am…” I dared to say to me and I chuckled, completely amazed at how delusional he was being at the moment. Before I could retort back at him, my door was once again opened and Diane waltzed in like she owned the place.“Is this your office? I
