JUNEHis mouth opened and closed. Diane nudged him a few times, hoping he would fight for her. But Rick was smarter than that even though still dumb. His company had just started to gain recognition, he wouldn’t want the media to get a whiff of this or even have a criminal record on his name.“Fine…I’ll leave, June. But don’t think that this is over. I will make you quit and come back to me no matter what!” He fixed his crooked tie and fragged Diane away with him.I turned, sighing exasperatedly. The nerve of him to make such ridiculous demands from me when he had been the one doing all kinds of fucked up shit to me.You said you wouldn’t curse, June.My mind reminded me and I hissed at it. I didn’t care anymore. While Angel was a child in all of this and should have been innocent, she wasn’t. Not entirely. She knew about her mother and father and never bothered to share it with me.This kind of child is not what I wanted. Thank God she wasn’t my biological daughter.I’d done my best

JUNEWhen I woke up this morning, I was certain nothing was going to ruin my day. Yet, just a few hours in and it was already a bad day.I couldn’t get a break from these two, it was starting to piss me off.The dean looked at me with disappointment, waiting for whatever excuse I had.I straightened and looked him dead in the eye and spoke, “You’re going to have to explain to me sir. Because I never did such a thing.”“These are the child’s parents. They saw you treat their daughter…”I knew the game they were trying to play at. I just didn’t want to look like I was trying to defend myself out of guilt.I turned to the man I had loved for ten years plus and the woman he chose to be his wife. “Sir, the child came in for an emergency and I treated her. At the time there wasn’t a doctor on call yet. I made sure she was stable. I haven’t seen her since because she got transferred to another doctor later so I’m a little confused on how I put her life in danger.”What is your lie now, Rick?

JUNEI was breathing hard by the time I was done talking. I was mad. At Rick for doing that to me but more at myself.First because I was so foolish back then. And second? Why the fuck was I even crying? Neither Rick nor Diane were worth my tears. The dean shifted his disappointment and now anger over to Rick. He scowled at them. “Mr. Thorne, I’m going to have to ask you to leave before I have security take you away. Your daughter can continue to receive treatment here, our team of doctors are the best. But if you will continue to cause problems, then we’ll be forced to discharge your daughter and then you’ll have to find a different hospital.”Rick stared in disbelief. He couldn’t believe the dean had taken my side. But anyone one would if there were sane.“June, I apologize for the trouble, you can go back to work now.” He turned with a gentler look in his eyes.Okay, maybe why I shouldn’t let people know about this was the pity that would come after. I already hated it.But I nodde

JUNEMy stomach dropped when I saw that smile. I should have known Rick wouldn’t stop. The call to the dean’s office should have been proof enough.I didn’t understand what part of me refusing was unclear to him. He was trying to force my hand, make me submit because he wasn’t used to this side of June. The June that didn’t care about him, was unbothered by the fact that his daughter was dying.Okay, I am a little. He wasn’t even begging. No, begging was anyone else’s style but not Rick Thorne. He saw himself above everyone else. That was why he thought he could attack my career. Make me look like the unethical doctor who refused to treat his daughter and even harmed her.Never mind that it wasn’t my job in the first place. It wasn’t even my department but I still showed up.Forget that donating a bone marrow was not a simple task.Rick didn’t care about any of that. He never sat still to think about the pain it would cost me.And that was how he was.I braced up and walked to where t

DANTEMy leg bounced repeatedly against the floor. The plane couldn’t fly faster than I would have wanted. She never called once. Not a single message from her either.I shouldn’t have had to feel the way I was. But I couldn’t help it. Was this what being in a relationship was? Because that was certainly my aim.I lifted my gaze and met Enzo's mischievous eyes. He had a smirk stretched on his lips and I had to stop myself from punching it off his face.He was mocking me. He wasn’t used to seeing me like this, getting worked up over a woman. Well shit, because I’d never seen me like this either. I let out a sigh, staring out the window as if trying to spot her father’s hospital from up here.Enzo chuckled. “I never thought I would see a day you’d get restless for a woman, boss.”I breathed in deeply. “Me neither. But wipe that smirk off your face, will you?”He just laughed nodding and lifting his hands in surrender. After leaving her office yesterday, I had to take the earliest flight

JUNEDante and I stared at each other for a long time. Thanks to his presence I was able to have Rick and his family kicked out, as well as Angel discharged from the hospital. They were no longer welcome at Mercy Memorial ever again. Eyes fell on me as they were being pushed out. Some of them were understanding. Others judged my choice not to save the child like they wouldn’t do the same if they were in my stead.I didn’t bother with them. Not when Dante wrapped his arms around me, refusing to let go. And definitely not with the way my father was looking at us like we had a confession to make. And worse, Dante had a smile on his face I was afraid of. I wanted to know what he was thinking or if he had lost his mind. When the silence finally broke, he spoke first. “Come here…” he said to me but I didn’t move. I couldn’t get my body to.With Dante around I didn’t have control over my body or mind half of the time. This was one of said times. He chuckled and pushed himself off the closed d

DANTEAngelo's silence scared me to bits. For the first time in so fucking long, I couldn’t tell what he was up to.I was on edge most of the time. I couldn’t tell if he was watching and I hadn’t caught on yet, or if he knew about June. God I hope it’s the former.I fixed my tie, a habit I had now grown into, this one was tight, it was choking. My phone rang and Enzo lifted a brow, fucker had a smile and I didn’t know what he was happy about.“It’s your girl isn’t it?” He wiggled his brows and I scowled at him. He actually averted his gaze from the road, his hand reaching to snatch the phone from me.The car swerved in the wrong lane, almost hitting another that had a family of five in it.At the last minute when he heard the honking if their car, he turned the car back to our lane.“Jesus fucking Christ, Enzo. Do you have a death wish?”I snapped at him, smacking the back of his head.He laughed nervously, then scratched the spot I smacked. “Sorry boss. I just wanted to see…”“Tell m

DANTEMy mind thought about June. Thought about every word I’d said to her. About how I wanted her and God knows I do. How I was willing to wait until he could give me her heart. Now, it seemed like a wish.Enzo stepped on the gas, his attention shifting from the road to the rear mirror, our enemies were driving closer and closer. Then the turned the steering wheel to an impossible anger, forcing the car to completely turn until we were face to face with these men.I shot him a look, he had to have lost his mind to do this. See what I meant by reckless? Add, crazy to the list.“Enzo?”He stared to smile at me, then turned his face back on the men. “Get the gun at the back boss, it’s already loaded. I don’t doubt your aim.”He all but answered, raving the car and charging at them. I didn’t need to be told twice to get the gun.But what I saw was more than a gun. It was a whole armory at the back seat. I was tempted to ask him why he had this many but now wasn’t the time.Another proble

DANTEPure undiluted fury boiled in my veins. How could I have been so stupid to give myself away like that?I was not one to be reckless, leave that to Enzo. But me? Never. Not since I learned the art of risk management. But with her, this woman all common sense seemed to leave my body. I clenched my hands so hard without realizing it, not until there was blood trickling down the tip of my fingers. Not even when the pain seared through. One pussy, one fucking night and I let my guard fucking down. I mean I had no problem being a fool for her. The only issue here was her safety. My boys and I already knew how to wing things around, and somehow we always made it out alive. But with her? How the fuck was I supposed to wing it with her? This fragile woman whose heart was still in shambles.I cursed under my breath again, hating myself a little more.Enzo had taken a step away from both men by now. I didn’t have to tell him my hands were about to get dirty. And now, my hands were soaked

DANTE“That’s not my business, take it down now.” I screamed into the phone before hanging up.I turned to the men, tearing open the bag of salt and scooping some of it in my palm.“You’re too late, Reyes. If he knows she exists in your world, then he’ll stop at nothing to have her.” The big man snarled and I hated that he was right. That was just how Angelo was. How my father wired him to be.Without a word, I signaled Enzo who took a gun out and shot him between his eyes. If pissing one’s pants was out of fear then little just shat his pants, I think. My head cocked to the side, I smiled at him. Like actually showed my teeth to him even though I was falling apart on the inside. That scoop of salt in my hand, I dumped the entire thing on his open wounds and I watched as he squirmed like a fucking earth worm. His screams filled the woods, again giving the birds more entertainment than they had witnessed in their pathetic lives.“Now I’m only going to ask you one time, buddy…” he turne
