All Chapters of The Things We Don't Say: Chapter 21 - Chapter 30

He was here. My brain must have pulled him out from the excesses of my imagination because there was no way on earth that he was here, at my golf club, looking like he rolled out of a magazine for the sweetest-looking men in existence.No. I didn’t just think that. The wind from the trees caresses the tip of his hair, the curls dancing dangerously close to his eyes. He looked surprised to see me too, his eyes looking everywhere other than my face. I should make this better for him. He didn’t do anything to me. Quite the opposite, since I was the jerk who’d left him stranded at the hospital the last time.Instead, I opened my mouth. “Didn’t I just say something?”His head jerked back in surprise, but other than that, he recovered quickly, nodding. “Yes, Sir. We…erm… we apologize for…I’ll just get…”“You are still here.”He seemed to have something more to say, but he decided against it, turning around and walking briskly in the direction of the kitchen. What the hell was he doing her

It was a stupid idea. I knew it was. There were a hundred other things to be doing at this moment, rather than standing at the entrance to JAR, looking like a stupid person. Yet, I couldn’t move an inch. The key to my parents' store was heavy in my pocket as I took another step forward. I hadn't told anyone I was leaving. Hell, I didn't even know I was leaving. I was going to ignore it. Jordan had made it clear that we were back to normal, to living in two different circles that never mixed. He'd made it clear when he left me at the hospital that he had no reason to be there in the first place. I'd wondered a million times if I'd done something to put him off. It had to be that. Maybe he remembered how such a nerd I was, and figured it was bound to ruin his reputation.Or maybe he’d just grown bored and tired.I was a boring person. God knew how many times I’d heard that. So, what the hell was I still doing here, watching the people trooping in like a creep? Jordan didn’t need me. He

I knew I should have bloody stopped crying or something, but I couldn’t help it. It made zero sense. I had told myself that a million times at this point, but it didn’t change anything. It hadn’t changed anything. Now, I was lost and couldn’t find my way back. How was I going to get home? Calling my brother to inform him that I was in the same golf club he’d warned me not to come to was out of the question, and I couldn’t call Jordan. He wasn’t even an option. What had I gotten myself into?My chest hurt so bad that I was certain it was going to cave in. And my nose was blocked. Yeah. Dead ass blocked with mucus. I bent to blow it out, grateful that I was in the middle of what looked like nowhere, with no one to hear the ugly sounds I was making. But every single inch of me froze when I heard the drag of a pair of footsteps from behind me. With one hand still above my nose and the other on my thigh, I remained that way, my heart beating so hard. All I could think about was how I wa

I'd heard countless times that the cosmos wasn't exactly kind to the humans that existed underneath it. The chances of meeting someone who didn't feel or sound like a threat at first glance were strange. It was one of the expected things, to shy away from the way they spoke, the way they looked…And in this case, the way they rode their bikes, like they had nine lives. My hair danced along with the wind, my hands wrapped tight around the stranger in front of me. He seemed to be having the time of his life, yelling at the top of his voice, laughing about something I couldn’t see.And then, there was me, holding on for dear life. I knew what lay underneath me, underneath his tyres, the moment I looked down. I had made the calculations – the number of minutes it would take before I sustained a fatal injury, how hard I would have to hit the ground to be admitted to the ER for a fatal case. And the odds weren’t in my favor.“Hold on tight,” he roared into the wind, angling his head for a f

“The guy is something, isn’t he?” Joshua, my cousin, muttered, sliding into the booth next to me. “One moment he doesn’t drink and the next, he’s dancing away in the middle of the most popular club in Phoenix. I have to admit, I am a great influence on people.”I pretended to be busy on my phone, scrolling through the same message repeatedly. I'd typed it earlier today, after Marcus stormed out of the funeral. It was a short apology for speaking that way to him. I didn't mean any of those things. I was sad, and he was just there, in all his sweetness. And I knew I didn’t deserve that. But I was yet to hit the send button. For some reason, I didn’t think it was what either of us needed. Joshua nudged me again. “What is wrong with you, bro?”"For starters, I just buried my sister," I deadpanned, not looking away from my phone. “But you’re here, aren’t you? You came here because you wanted to forget. And now, you’re just idling by a corner, doing nothing. You should join the party, man.
