Karma's POVI had barely pushed my chair back when the conference room door opened and several men walked into the room. The conversation that had started among the board members died instantly.I stopped. There was something about their appearance that immediately told me they weren't hospital staff, they were police officers. The man leading them stepped forward, reaching into his jacket. He pulled out his identification card and held it up for me to see."Detective Inspector Marcus Hale," he introduced himself. "We need to speak with Dr. Karma Kuntz."My eyes moved from his identification card to his face. "You have her."His expression remained professional. "I know." He lowered the card and gestured toward the men behind him. "We're officers from the Major Crimes Division."The room became completely silent. I looked at the chairman, then at Dr. Petersen and the other members of the board then finally looked back at the officers. "What is this about?"Detective Hale glanced brief

Karma's POV"Noah..."For a moment, none of us moved. Dr. Keller was the first to recover. He immediately stood from the chair and straightened his jacket before looking toward Noah "Detective Adler."Noah gave him a brief nod. "Congratulations once again." I knew exactly what he meant. Dr. Keller had already congratulated us at the wedding, but apparently, he felt the need to say it again.Noah only hummed in response. "Hmm." His voice was calm, too calm.Dr. Keller glanced at me, then back at Noah. "I'll see you around, Doctor.""Thank you," I replied. He walked toward the door, and as he passed Noah, they exchanged another brief nod. Noah stepped aside to let him through. The moment Dr. Keller left, Noah reached for the door and gently pushed it shut behind him, then he turned around. Everywhere became silent, I watched him carefully. He didn't look angry, that was the problem. If Noah had been angry, I would have known exactly how to deal with him.But he wasn't, he simply stood t

Karma's POVI left the conference room after making sure the detectives had everything they had requested for, although I believe they would be getting the rest of what they are asking for tomorrow. But instead of heading straight to my office, I found myself walking through the hospital again. One last time, at least, that was what it felt like. The corridors were quieter now. The usual rush of the day had disappeared, leaving behind the soft footsteps of the few nurses still working the night shift and the occasional beeping of medical equipment.I walked slowly, looking around. The pediatric ward, the surgical wing, the emergency department and the waiting area.Everywhere I looked, memories came rushing back. I remembered the first time I had walked through these corridors as the head of the hospital.I remembered the nights I had stayed until morning because there was a difficult case nobody else wanted to handle.I remembered fighting for better equipment, expanding the wards, h

Helena's POVI had run out of patience. For weeks without end, I had tried to get through to Karma. I had tried calling her. I had tried sending messages. I had even considered going directly to her, but every time I thought I had found an opportunity, something got in the way.And now, there was something much bigger than my frustration. Something that could destroy everything Karma had built. In short, I believe that it has always been there, her hospital has always been doing something like this, but it just hasn't been discovered all these while.I sat behind my desk, staring at the reports spread across it, organ harvesting. The words had become impossible to ignore. At first, I had hoped the information reaching me was exaggerated. Rumours were dangerous, especially when they involved a hospital as prominent as Karma's.But then I received more information, different sources, different details and somehow, they all pointed in the same direction.Save the Needy Hospital.Children

Karma's POVThe door opened wider, I instinctively took another step backward. Then the woman walked in.For a second, I simply stared at her, my mind struggled to process what my eyes were seeing. The familiar face, the composed posture, and the unmistakable presence. My eyes widened. "Judge Helena Bergmann?"The words escaped me as a scream. "What the hell?"Helena closed the door behind her and calmly walked into the room as though she hadn't just had me taken somewhere against my will. She pulled out the chair behind the desk and sat down.I stared at her in disbelief. "You?" She looked at me calmly. "Karma…""What the hell is wrong with you?" She sighed. "Please, sit down.""Sit down?"My voice rose again. "You really don’t get to tell me what to do, you had someone take me from my car!" She didn't say anything. "You took my phone!""I know." She finally said "You brought me to some abandoned-looking building in the middle of nowhere and locked me inside a room!""I know all thi
