The Commotion

Emerson walked out of the room and closed his eyes. He had to call his people to look for a man called Piers Austin in the ER. He could not understand why Kingsley was so worried and agitated after hearing about Rose and her attack. He could not understand why he, too, was feeling the same. When he heard that the girl who saved his boss, his best friend, was attacked, his heart jumped out of his chest. He grabbed his chest and caressed it to ease the pain.“Why is he feeling like this? He has never acted this way for any other woman. He has always waited for the confirmation before jumping into action. But for this woman, he is ready to burn the world down. He didn’t even see her clearly. He was bleeding; he fainted; he didn’t even know her name. So why is he so concerned for her? Why is he so angry?“And what the hell is wrong with me? Why is my heart aching if she has a boyfriend, no, no, a fiancé? Why am I feeling sad? So what she got hurt? I don’t know her. Yes, she saved, she pro

The ER Room

Kingsley, Fiona and Emerson were in an embrace. Their guards were at the door, looking in with sweet smiles on their faces. They all loved working for the Aguilar family, for the Cox family, for Dia Lucrii. They were mafia, they committed crimes, no doubt about that, but everyone was treated with respect and love. And they never hurt any innocent people.Everyone’s concentration was broken by the sudden ringing of the phone.“Ohh, busy man!” teased Fiona, and they broke the embrace. Emerson fished his phone out of his pocket and gulped for a second. The phone call he had been dreading came. Lang was calling him. He knew why he was calling him. He glanced at Kingsley; he knew he was going to be so angry. But why? Why was a girl who was a stranger making them care for her? Why do Emerson and Kingsley both want to kill Piers for touching her?“What?” asked Kingsley. “What are you looking at me like that?”“It’s Lang!” said Emerson. And Kingsley understood everything. The happy environment

The Pitiful Face

Seth was on his couch staring at the roof. He could hear Rose crying all night. His eyes were misty with crying. He lifted his palm and looked at the bandage that Rose had tied. He had injured his hand, too, after punching and slapping Piers. Yet his heart was not ready to back down. His whole body was shaking with fury. He wanted to run back to Piers and beat him into a pulp for touching Rose.He had no idea when he fell asleep. The whole night, he kept dreaming about Rose and how she kept crying. The morning light streamed inside his house, and he groaned with pain and tiredness. He opened his eyes when he heard the faint humming of his coffee machine and the clinking and clanking of his pots and pans.Rose tried to make as little sound as possible but was failing spectacularly. The cracking and beating of eggs, the sizzling of pans, the opening and closing of the fridge, the whooshing sound of the overhead chimney, everything was irritating Seth.“Will you stop it?” snapped Seth.“O

The Hundred Boxes

A large army of men dressed in black with shades on had red, green, blue, white, black, whatever colour one can think of boxes in their hands, started walking inside the bakery. One by one, the boxes started piling up in a corner. They would drop the box, pile it up neatly, glance at Rose and walk out.“What… is… happening? Who are you?” asked Rose, but her voice was choked in her throat. But no one replied to her. “Seth! What is this?” asked Rose, grabbing his shirt tightly.“I don’t know. They just asked for you, and then I went to call you after I saw the long line of cars waiting outside,” replied Seth.“Long line of cars?” asked Rose, and she ran to the window to get a better look. A long line of black SUVs and luxury sedans was parked outside.“Are you Miss Rose Woolridge?” asked the man who dropped the last box.“Um… who’s asking?” asked Rose.“Yes, if you want to talk, talk to me,” ordered Seth.“Sir! We were given instructions to only hand this letter to Miss Rose Woolridge,”

The Talk with Roger

“Hospital? You were in the hospital? Were you hurt? Wait! Why didn’t we get any alert about that? The bill must have landed on Ursa’s desk. What happened to that?” Roger kept shouting as he kept getting agitated.Rose tilted her head and thought for a second. “You are right. My bills must have landed on Ursa’s desk. She didn’t call me to berate me. Why? And… I was not hurt. I just fainted. All that drama and blood and bullets, I don’t know what happened, I fainted. Maybe that’s why there was no bill, because there was nothing to treat?”“No, even if you go to the ER, they will bill you. They checked you, which must have incurred some fee. I will ask the finance department. Don’t worry. Tell me, why the police?” asked Roger.“Roger! I told you there was blood, bullets, dead bodies everywhere, yet after I came back from the hospital, my bakery was the same. They even broke the bathroom door, yet now it’s all okay. Everything was back to the way I see it every day. I need a policeman who

The Sorry Piers

“Shit! Shit! Shit! She can’t see me!” cried Roger and started turning in every direction, looking for a place to hide.“I know, I know! Go hide in the kitchen or behind the counter. Move, move! Just don’t stand here!” shouted Rose and pushed Roger.“Right! Right!” said Roger and jumped behind the counter. But the next moment, Rose let out another gasp and stood frozen. “Now what?” asked Seth.“Wh…o? Who is that?” asked Rose, her breath shuddering. Even Seth’s eyes were widened in shock. A group of men and women were walking towards the bakery. But one man was battered, covered in bandages and had a sling around his neck. He was walking with the help of his friends.“No! No! No! He is not welcome here! I will kick everyone out!!!” snapped Seth. Rose was frozen in her position. She didn’t want to see anyone, talk to anyone, yet the man who broke her heart was walking towards her. Seth too started walking towards the door when Rose stopped him.“People are here! They will know!” she mumbl

The Delivery

“Get in!” snapped Rose.“Rosie!!” shouted Seth. But Rose shut him up with the show of her palm. She once blinked at him, assuring him that she was okay and would be okay. Seth moved to the side, making way for Piers and his friends.Nigel, Mason, Victor, Gibbs, Wilda, Moss and Vanessa immediately followed Piers. All the friends had their hands full. Piers ran towards Rose and knelt down near her feet. He grabbed her hands and sobbed loudly. But Rose was not having his drama; she pulled her hand back, leaving Piers shocked with his mouth open.“Rosie!” he could just mumble.“Don’t touch me!” snapped Rose.“Okay, okay, fine! I won’t touch you. I am sorry, I am sorry for what I did. I will say to you for all our lives. If you want, you can hit me too. Break my other arm for touching you. Rip my throat out, Rosie. Stomp on me with your feet. Cut me into pieces, but never stop loving me. Don’t forgive me; I don’t ask for that. Take your time. Just don’t hate me, Rosie! Please! I am sorry, I

The Trespassing Threat

Piers had never done anything like that for her. He didn’t believe in grand gestures, yet he was making one. But what was she going to do with the pain, the hurt in her heart? Last night, he hurt her, and that was not going anywhere.“Rosie! Please look at me!” pleaded Piers. “Even if you don’t forgive me, at least accept my flowers. They are not only my flowers, but also from our friends. If you can’t forgive me, at least forgive them. I know that the wedding is coming up and you are emotional. I understand that. Please don’t be angry at me anymore. I will give you the wedding of your dreams whenever you want. We don’t have to get married this week; hell, we don’t have to get married if you don’t want to. Just please accept my flowers. That way, I will know, we will know that we at least have a chance to get forgiveness from you. We will keep saying sorry again and again. And… I spent all the money for you. I didn’t let them pay for the flowers. I paid for everything, I swear! Please

The Alcohol

For two days, Rose spent her time in Seth’s house and bakery. She didn’t even try to make her wedding cake. She didn’t even know if the wedding would happen. She was still angry with Piers. Yet Piers never wavered. For those two days, he kept sending her hundreds of bouquets, each with a card saying ‘sorry’. Her phone was blowing up with messages from every friend. She wanted to look at it and reply to them, but Seth was adamant. He didn’t let her reply to even one of them.He kept her busy with a lot of work, and then at home, they would spend their time watching series and movies while munching on juicy, greasy, salty food. Roger kept her updated about her father’s condition. But she was getting agitated by every passing day. She informed Seth that she would be going back home and would stay there for a few days. Maybe at night, she could sneak into her father’s room just to get a look at him.Seth reluctantly dropped her off at her house, and she stood at the porch taking a deep bre

The Limp Body

Rose was breathing heavily, and her whole body felt like someone had lain her on a bed of embers. Her vision was blurred equally due to her tear-filled eyes and due to intoxication. Her throat was burning as if Ursa had dumped literal fire in her mouth. The bitter taste had burned her tongue too. Her nose hurt as Moira kept closing it after every gulp. Her brain was on fire; she couldn't understand anything.Everything before her eyes started spinning, and her body went limp. She fell to the floor and kept breathing as fast as she could. As if the air was soothing the burning sensation. She heard someone shouting and Ursa moving away from her. But she had no idea what was happening or who shouted.Suddenly, a tall figure appeared before her, and a handsome face came close to her eyes. “P… p… piers!” she mumbled, drool coming out of her mouth combined with alcohol.“Rose! Rosie!” shouted Piers, and he lifted her head and cradled her in his arms. “What the hell is wrong with you all? Wh
