Emerson walked out of the room and closed his eyes. He had to call his people to look for a man called Piers Austin in the ER. He could not understand why Kingsley was so worried and agitated after hearing about Rose and her attack. He could not understand why he, too, was feeling the same. When he heard that the girl who saved his boss, his best friend, was attacked, his heart jumped out of his chest. He grabbed his chest and caressed it to ease the pain.

“Why is he feeling like this? He has n

Emerson nodded at her with a sweet smile on his face.“Tell me what is bothering you? You know me. You saw me in that bathroom. I was there when you fainted. I carried you to the hospital. I carried you when you hurt your foot. So, I think we are basically friends now. You can tell me anything,” Emerson tried to comfort her.But Rose just looked at him, chewing the insides of her lips.“Don’t worry! Whatever you share with me will never reach anyone else. I am good at keeping secrets. If not a friend, you can think of me as a confidante. I don’t tell your things to anyone. You don’t tell my things. Can we make this deal at least?” asked Emerson. He extended his pinky finger at her.Rose looked at him, then at his finger and sighed loudly. She wrapped her pinky finger with his and smiled back at him. His heart urgently skipped a beat. He couldn’t tell anyone if that was because she touched him or because she smiled at him.“What I said, I didn’t mean it like that. What I meant was… I k

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Inner Thoughts

Rose clenched her fists and kept staring at Kingsley. She could not believe what he was talking about. He was being considerate, polite and understanding. But was he not the one who hurt her father? What was that about then? Was he not supposed to be a devil? A ruthless killer, a playboy? Then what was the behaviour he was currently displaying?“Is something wrong with him? Is he bipolar? Does he get mood swings? I should find out everything about him. But whom am I going to ask? His family will never tell me if anything is wrong with him. They will definitely try to hide everything. But why is he being so sweet to me? What am I supposed to do with that fact?” pondered Rose. She kept walking with Kingsley. He never tried to touch her or get close to her. He kept his distance and at the same time never left her side. He didn’t even make a move to shake all the dust from his shirt.“His whole family is sweet too. But why? Is all this just an act? But why would a whole family put on an a

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Dirt Fight

The silence was so deafening that everyone could clearly hear the chirping of the birds, the rustling of wind through the leaves. Kingsley kept staring at his shirt covered in dirt, then at Rose’s face, back at his shirt, and back again at Rose. Rose would open her mouth, but nothing came out of it.Kingsley kept staring at her, remembering every time Rose sat on his chest, dumping dried leaves and dirt on his head. He remembered how he teased her, made her mad with his antics, and Rose would pull on his hair, shouting and yelling at him, calling him names. Their parents had to pick them up and break the fight. But Rose never stopped fighting. She kicked and punched the air, flailed her legs and arms and screamed her lungs out.She only calmed down when Kingsley apologised and gave her something as a bribe. It could be a piece of candy, a bar of chocolate or ice cream. He pictured the same Rose sitting on his chest, hitting him. he didn’t see how everyone was looking at him, scared an

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Conflicting Feelings

Rose blinked her eyes a few times and kept staring at Queenie. A mafia family had such a beautiful tradition? That was beyond her comprehension. They were going to plant trees? That was a beautiful thing. But how could she tell everyone that?“Okay!” said Rose. Everyone moved to the big lawn with the cart. The places to plant the trees were already marked. Shovels and small spades were placed in a corner. Rose looked at her dress and cursed herself. Why did she have to choose a white dress? Now it would get covered in all the dirt, and then Kingsley and his family would obviously scold her. After all, she had picked the dress from her closet, which the Aguilar family had chosen for her. If only she had picked one from her suitcases, she would be fine.“Come on, let’s plant these apple trees first. We will have a lot of apples in the coming year. My grandkids will climb the tree and pick the apples with their own hands. Oh, I am so happy,” giggled Queenie and clasped both her palms tog

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Best Daughter

Rose was standing in the middle of the living room, surrounded by so many people, and everyone was treating her like a spoiled princess. They kept handing her gifts after gifts. Now even the couch was filled with the gifts, yet they were not done yet. It kept irritating her with every passing minute.“That is mine! You are taking what is mine! Dad is mine! You are nothing! Your mother is dead! This is my mother! This is my house! Everything belongs to my daughter Vanessa. You are just someone I keep around. You cannot take the car. Give this room to Vanessa. I don’t have money to invest in your business; everything is Vanessa’s. Why would I give you anything that belongs to my daughter?” Ursa’s and Vanessa’s words all through her life kept echoing in her ears. Now everyone would say that she took Vanessa’s wedding. That she took her groom. But then Kingsley’s voice echoed in her ears. “Everything was prepared for you. Wifey!”Right! Even though Kingsley wanted to marry Vanessa, she th

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Bridal Gifts - 2

Rose stared at the car keys in disbelief and shock.“But… I… these are… so expensive… are you sure these are for me?” asked Rose. She finally had to ask.“Of course, everything is for you. Who else? You are our daughter now. Why do you think we bought it for someone else?” asked Zachary.“Because… because… Van…” Rose opened her mouth, but Kingsley stopped her by grabbing her shoulder. He applied a little pressure and made her look at him. “Dear wifey! Whatever you see here was purchased for you, prepared for you. You are my wife. I married you. So, everything is yours. Don’t ever doubt that.”Kingsley finally realised that Rose still thought that she took Vanessa’s place. And now he regretted his plan. His plan was always to marry her. They just scared Ursa so that she would make Rose marry him. No mother in her right mind would send her daughter to a mafia leader whose name was associated with blood and filthy sex. Also, Kingsley had said that he would keep her daughter till the paym

  • Replacement Bride: His Rose   The Fainting

Tears could not stop falling from Rose’s face. She had her body thrown over Kingsley’s body. She was surrounded by men with guns in their hands and no way to save or protect Kingsley or herself. All she could do was plead. But would pleading work with heartless gang members? The man standing at the

Kingsley’s eyes flickered, and he opened them. He grabbed Rose’s hand and again said, “Rose!” and finally lost his consciousness.“No, no, please, please, wake up! Wake up!” sobbed Rose. But she made sure that the pressure on Kingsley’s wound was tight. She was not letting even a drop fall from the

The moment Kingsley was at the back of the bakery, he heard the bell of the door. He knew someone had entered the shop. He had to act fast. He knew he must not die. He had to live. He had to find the love of his life. He had to get rid of his mortal enemy. He had to live for his people. He tilted h

“Get out, King! Now! I will hold him off! Go!” shouted Emerson at the top of his lungs as all the bang-bang of the guns was deafening.
