Zeke Alexander POVWe were out of Sterling Enterprises when I snuck a look at my passenger. She was silent. Her hands were placed neatly in her lap, and her eyes were fixed ahead. Her breathing was steady.“Why did you choose me?” I asked, breaking the silence between us.“I did not choose you. I just chose peace.”My gaze shifted back to the front to concentrate on my driving. The traffic was light. There was no traffic to distract me.I sighed and gripped the steering wheel. From the corner of my eye, I kept glancing at her, noticing the steady rise and fall of her chest. She did not look like a trapped animal

Lucy Cole POVOlivia and I arrived together at the Club Royale, an exclusive membership club that caters to the rich.Todd was already there, sitting a bit uneasy. His eyes darted around, looking like a boy on Christmas Eve. Of course, we both couldn’t afford this club if it weren’t for Mr. Sterling.I really think that he’s making it up with Olivia.“This place is grand,” Todd commented.I grinned. “Of course. Nothing but the best for Mrs. Sterling.” I teased, glancing briefly at the bar where Mr. Sterling was sitting by his lonesome self, not too far from us, with a drink.Todd caught my gaze, and he seemed taken aback. My words were fully sinking in.“You mean you are married?” I saw the hurt in his eyes.Since college, Todd had his eyes on Olivia. He liked her, but she never liked him more than just a friend. Olivia already had one man in her heart since she was a teenager, and that was Josh Morgan Sterling. She never loved anyone else. Now, he’s reciprocating her feelings, and I c

Olivia Barnett POV“What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Josh was holding my hand. We were waiting at the lounge with an unconscious Lucas sprawled on the opposite couch, while we waited for the valet to drop his car at the entrance.I shook my head before my gaze shifted to Lucas. “What happened to him?” I said, unfocusing on what had transpired between my two best friends to stare at the drunken man in front of us.He looked out of sorts, and that was unusual. I may not have spent much time with Josh’s friends in the past, but I had never known them to be drunkards. Each one can hold his liquor.Josh shook his head. “He’s already drunk when he met with me tonight.” Then he sighed,

Olivia Barnett POVThe look I gave him was mutinous, kind of what I was feeling right now. I wanted to see it my way.“Why do we have to do that when we can speed things up? We saw the sparks. I can definitely say that they are perfect for each other.”He did not seem to recognize the argument, so I made it closer to home.“Look at us. We went through several hardships before we came to this point. Look at the time we wasted?”The smile he gave me was indulgent, one that he didn’t give me before.“And look at the lessons it taught us.” This time he sounded gentle. It was as if he had gone into a world all on his own.

Josh Morgan SterlingI should have been angry. But as I looked at my children’s faces, all I ever felt was this certainty that life is indeed beautiful. Then, I looked at Olivia’s tender face. The soft expression was directed solely at our triplets as she guided them on the bed. They surrounded her, and she smiled invitingly at me.I blinked and asked myself, how could I have been this lucky? Not everyone was given a second chance, and I was one of the few lucky ones.“Daddy! Come on! Read us a story.” Zoe held my hand and looked at me with so much trust in her eyes.
