All Chapters of Marrying The Wrong Brother: Chapter 71 - Chapter 80

There were a thousand things I would expect Zane to hide from me but this wasn't one of them. How was I supposed to confront him? Where was I supposed to start from?So Chloe was a child all this time?Who was this Chloe? Was she his child from a previous relationship? Why didn't he tell me about it?Why was he keeping this a secret?Did he just want to spring up a child on me out of nowhere? It made no damn sense. It made my mind spiral. If there was anyone who could give me answers, it was the man fast asleep in front of me.But seeing how peaceful he was, knowing how he probably hadn't slept well for the last couple of days because of his obvious eye bags, I decided to keep the confrontation for later. I left the folder the same way I saw it and slipped out of the room as silently as I could. Those words stayed on my mind for hours before I could finally let myself sleep. ~The next morning, I dragged myself out of bed to the bathroom.I splashed some water on my face and just

Maybe I had finally pushed him away for good. Maybe there was no recovering for us. Maybe I had fucked it up too badly because I was running away from feeling too much. Zane was making me feel certain things I had closed my heart to. I didn't want to get hurt again. Inasmuch as it seemed that I had gotten over Cole so quickly, it wasn't exactly the case. The wound cut deeper than anyone else understood. The depth of hurt I felt from his betrayal changed everything I thought I knew about love. There were times I had questions. Questions I honestly thought of finding answers to. But at some point I made peace with the fact that those answers would never come. I sat in a lotus position on my bed, swiping through my iPad for the memories of my life in the past few years. I had some pictures with Cole I was yet to delete. The brunette blue-eyed man I thought was the love of my life. His boyish grin shined through every of those pictures. I swiped some more and saw the pictu

I picked up my bag, ready to walk out of the court with Zane. As I looked up, I locked eyes with a certain little girl. She looked away a few seconds letter. The little girl couldn't have been older than six.She had a head full of soft chestnut curls that bounced whenever she moved and wide hazel eyes that seemed far too observant for someone her age. Long lashes framed them, making every curious glance feel impossibly innocent. She wore a pale yellow dress beneath a tiny denim jacket, white sneakers dangling a little as she swung her legs from the chair she sat on. A stuffed pink rabbit rested on her lap, its ears worn flat from years of being hugged too tightly. There was a tiny gap where one of her front teeth had recently fallen out, and every time she smiled, it made her look even younger. She wasn't loud like most children. She colored quietly inside a picture book, occasionally humming to herself before looking up whenever footsteps echoed through the hallway, almost as if sh

I had cried enough. After spending hours cooped up in my room, I knew it was time to get over this. And just like the universe knew exactly what I needed, my laptop beeped with a familiar notification. There was an email. "You have a delivery." Maya's excited self entered my office at lunch time. She was holding a pretty large bouquet. I stared at it, putting down the folder I was reading through.White orchids.Absolutely professional. Now that I was back, I expected presents of this sort from different business associates. What I didn't expect was who they were from and the note that came with it.I picked it up and read through.'Congratulations on your reinstatement. Never doubted you for a second.- Zane' There was no endearment. He sent it like we were coworkers or just two business people who were courteous to each other. That was the point we had gotten to?I didn't bother sniffing the flowers. I set them down on my desk and asked Maya to take care of them. She had a question in her eyes but I could see she chose to not pursue it.I was not in the mood to talk about my personal life. I was back to work and every other thing could be counted as frivolities. I went through record after recor
