CHAPTER 31

CHAPTER 31~ KIM ~“Oh wow!” I exclaimed in low tunes, but still audible enough for him to hear.Richard sat beside me. “Alpha Richard Fell pulled out a seat for me. Is the world about to end?” “Shut up. Don’t get used to it.” We kept our tones low so that the couple on the other side of the table could not hear, but the animosity was as loud as it had always been. “Is everything okay?” “Of course.” Richard and I responded in chorus and nodded. As soon as we sat down, two ladies walked over to our table. They laid every drink choice available, our table could barely carry them and that was the pattern for dinner. No one asked what we’d rather have. Through the starter, main dish and desert, every thing our minds could possibly conceive was laid out. I was munching down on a piece of chocolate cake when I sighted a familiar face walking through the main door. A small piece of the cake went down my trachea and I was choking hard immediately. “Are you okay?”“Here,”Everyone o

CHAPTER 32: Mate!

CHAPTER 32: Mate! ~RICHARD~ I was sure I heard movement and picked a strong scent of a male wolf that was familiar, but I looked around the roof and found no one. “Let's go,” I grabbed her arm and pushed her into the elevator. “At what point are you going to learn to tell me where we're going, instead of ordering me around?” I grabbed the keys from the table and sent us back out as soon as we entered the room. “If I have to tell you one more time…” “I know. You don't answer to me.” she took the rest of the sentence right out of my mouth. “We're going shopping.” I closed the car door behind her and walked around the vehicle to the driver's seat. “Huh? What is…”“Don't flatter yourself.” “Tomorrow is the closing ceremony of the conference. It's a grand event and I don't trust anything in that luggage you packed.” “I can't afford for you to show up looking cheap.” I fired at her. “I'll look past all the arrogant things you just said and take the win.” She replied. I hid th

CHAPTER 33: OATH OF SILENCE

CHAPTER 33: OATH OF SILENCE ~KIM~ My heart was pounding as he closed the gap between us.‘Oh my goodness! It was happening!’ I closed my eyes, sinking in the moment, but my eyes were forced open when I heard a large thud by my side. “You have to be kidding me.” Richard was fast asleep beside me. Drunk. I snuck out from under him, rushed out of the room and shut the door behind me. “What were you thinking Kim?” I kicked the air. My fury knew no bounds, internalized. “Everytime! He does this everytime!” I lamented, pacing the living area. “The worst part is every single time, I’m excited at the possibility of something happening. I couldn't even help myself. My eyes were open all night and my mouth was sealed. “You're already packed,” Richard sounded surprised, but I was done staying here, trapped for the week. All I could think of was returning to Galina. I had a need to unburden myself and she was the only one I could count on to at least listen. I stared at him, with

CHAPTER 34: Whispers

CHAPTER 34: Whispers ~KIM~ “Kim!“Kim, wait!!” I increased my pace through the hallway. My eyes were fixed on my door, but my speed was no match for his. Logan soon caught up with me, double crossing me while I was still a few steps from my door. “Common. You can't continue ignoring me.” Actually, that's exactly what I planned to do. It was a big mansion and if only he had ignored me too, there was a large chance we would never cross paths, but of course I couldn't tell him that.“What do you want?” “To talk. I want us to talk.” “We have nothing to talk about Logan.” Every step I tried to make around him, he was in the way before I fully executed it. “It's been weeks. We live in the same house, Kimberly and you have barely left your room.” My defense wall was beginning to have cracks. “Every time I come to your room, you never answer the door and the few times you have left your room, you had an escort and was gone before I got to you. What is going on?”“I don't know, Log

CHAPTER 35: NIGHT IN THE WOODS

CHAPTER 35: NIGHT IN THE WOODS~KIM~ “You're home early. Is everything ok?” Galina was waiting in front of my room. “Add that to the list of places I can't go to.” I walked around her, into the room. No one deserved to see my long face for that long. “Where?” “Where did you take her?” She was attacking Logan before he got the chance to take another breath. Her need to defend me was cute. “It's not about where he took me. It's that I can never leave the mansion ever again.” I collapsed onto the bed face down in a pillow. “Why?” Silence lingered for a few seconds. “I'm just going to…” One second I was hearing his voice, the next I was hearing the door close behind him. “Kim, you have to tell me what is going on,” Galina began to untie my shoes from my legs that were hanging from the bed. “The moon goddess doesn't think I'm suffering enough or that my life is pathetic enough.” “What does that mean?”“I just want to be left alone, Galina. Please.” For a few seconds, her ha

CHAPTER 36: VACATION'S OVER

CHAPTER 36: VACATION'S OVER~ RICHARD ~“Arghhh!!!” She yelled at the top of her voice as soon as she saw me. I must confess I was pretty terrified too, but I managed to keep it down as soon as I realized she was the one. “What is wrong with you?” She looked cute being scared. Holding her chest and breathing heavily. “What is wrong with me? Why are you always sneaking into a house that's not yours?” I fired at her. “You've been kept at a big mansion, why is that not enough for you?” Her eyes folded. “Aren't you supposed to be on the other side of the world with Elena or something?” “Here we go again with the questions.” I rolled my eyes. Fighting her for questioning me was the only way I knew to escape answering those questions and this was a more special case. There was no way I was going to tell her that Elena wanted us on the other side of the world, but I convinced her to remain in the neighboring pack. I needed to be able to return at night. Keep my eyes on things aroun

CHAPTER 37: CATHERINE ‘FALL’

CHAPTER 37: CATHERINE ‘FALL’~ KIM ~“Hey,”Logan sneaked up on me from behind.“Hi.”“They’re back, huh?”“Yep.” I nodded.“How unfortunate. I was just getting used to the peace.”I smiled faintly.“You and me both.”My response was a tough covering for the excitement I was feeling on the inside. The mere sight of him had my heart beating at twice the normal rate.“Logan... lunch is for everybody today.”Catherine Fell’s voice came from the living area.“Well... There we go.”Logan rolled his eyes.“Do I have to?”I could not imagine facing them. Elena and Richard in the same space was never a good combination, especially for me.“You heard the woman. For everybody.”Logan’s imitation of Catherine Fell was funny and those few seconds of laughter made it easier to walk into the dining room.“Welcome back. Trust you both had a great time.”Logan pulled out a seat for me and one for himself beside me.Catherine let Richard have her seat at the head of the table, with herself and Elena

CHAPTER 38: SISTER SWITCH

CHAPTER 38: SISTER SWITCH ~ KIM ~“Argh!!!”I had seen all sorts of creepy things, especially in my four years in the rogue dungeon. None of those prepared me for how creepy it would be to wake up to Elena sitting beside my bed and staring at my face.“Relax. It’s just me.”“All the more reason it’s disturbing.” I managed to catch my breath. “What happened?”I pushed and sat upright. The look in Elena’s eyes was disturbing.“Oh, my goodness! Catherine did not... She was better this morning when Logan and I left her. At least we thought so. Oh, my goodness.”I used a hundred words in a minute.“Kim... Relax. Catherine is not dead.”I exhaled.“Okay? So, if she’s not, why were you sitting beside my bed waiting for me to wake up?” I probed.“Because I need a favor.”I froze.Chuckled.Then I realized a bit of seriousness on her face.Actually, a lot of it.“Oh! You mean it?” I adjusted again.“You mean another favor other than coming here to marry your husband and have a child for you

CHAPTER 39: BLACK HOLE

CHAPTER 39: BLACK HOLE~ KIM ~“Kim... I don’t feel so good.”Elena sounded sluggish and it was not out of place. It just meant we were running out of time. For over three hours, I had been trying to push healing powers into Catherine. For over three hours, it was like pouring water on a rock.Every time I tried, I felt power leave me. I felt a pull further into the dark, but there was no change on Catherine.“Kim... ”Elena’s eyes were beginning to move funny.“I’ll try one more time.”I took a deep breath, focused everything that I had and gently placed my hand on Catherine’s forehead.I closed my eyes and held, waiting to feel the rock crack. Instead, I heard a loud thud from behind me.“Elena!”She could not take the power sap anymore and passed out.“Elena!”My voice got louder. My mind ran in a hundred different directions. My confusion hit its peak when Catherine started coughing and voices were filtered into the room from the hallway.“Think! Think!! Think!!! Kim.”A way ou

CHAPTER 40:

CHAPTER 40:~ KIM ~“If I had told you that I couldn’t, because of the draining effect, you’d probably think I didn’t care about Catherine enough.”It was Elena. Her voice was faint, but I could still recognize it.“I would never do that. I know how much you love my mother, but it means so much to me that you went the extra mile to do this, despite knowing its effect on you.”Richard’s voice was what followed. Their conversation slowly unfolding how badly I was betrayed.“You know I love you and I would do just about anything for you.”“I love you too, Elena, and now... now, I owe you more than my life. I owe you my mother’s as well.”“If ever you need anything. Anything at all. Just say the world.”‘She lied to me.’I believed that Richard knew this was all me. I thought we were lying to the world, but I was the one being lied to. Deceived. Betrayed. The knife cut deeper than I thought it would.Tears welled in my eyes.I turned around and dashed away from the door.“Kim... ”I hea
