~LORETTE~“Help me, please… my baby…” I choke out in my wrecked car, drenched in my blood, hoping somebody would hear me. But cold silence greets me.I have just been involved in an accident on my way home from my prenatal checkup. One second, I was smiling like the most contented woman alive, one hand gently rubbing my belly while driving. Happily imagining how my little family will finally be complete.The next second, a car lost control on the bend and crashed into mine with full force.The vicious impact exploded my glass, smashing metal. My car flipped over and over, tumbling violently along with the car that had just crashed into me.When my car finally stopped, I was hanging upside down, trapped in the wreckage. My leg is badly mangled, pinned under twisted metal. Blood is pouring out fast, forming a pool beneath me.Every breath hurts so much.“God… help me,” I rasp weakly again, my arms wrapped protectively over my stomach, as I try to yell for help. “Help my baby. Please…”

~LORETTE~“Hospital?” Lucas’s voice immediately fills with heavy worry. “What happened? Are you okay, Lori?”“I got into an accident,” I reply quietly, not having the energy to explain more. We’re not close enough for that.“Oh God, Lori…” The panic in his voice grows. “Were you badly injured? Please, tell me you’re fine.”“Not really.” I whisper.“Hold on. I’m coming right now. Just stay right there.”He ends the call immediately.I drop the phone on the bedside table and sigh, staring blankly at the white ceiling.Yes, Lucas is my biological brother, and I only found out I had a true family two months ago when he’d suddenly appeared with DNA results claiming I’m his long-lost younger sister. He said I have four other brothers and that they’ve been searching for me for years.“We lost you when you were only three months old,” he had told me, eyes filled with emotions he couldn’t hide. “Come home with me, Lori. Let me introduce you to our brothers. We can finally be a family again.”
