Nadia's POVTwenty-eight-year-old Jace's chest heaved as he shouted like he'd completely lost it."You don't have to believe me, but I'm begging you—be brave! You already felt it, didn't you? How many chances does a person get? Don't spend your whole life regretting this!"A dull ache spread through my chest. So even going back to the past couldn't change anything. Jace still wouldn't love me.Before I knew it, tears were already running down my face. Then someone gently covered my ears.Eighteen-year-old Jace tilted his head and leaned closer, smiling as he winked at me."Did he scare you? Don't be scared. I'm here. That guy's crazy. Nothing he says matters. Just listen to me, okay? I'll only ever love you. You hear me?"A teenage boy's love burned bright and felt endless. But staring into his eyes—those bright, familiar eyes—I heard another voice through the sound of shattering glass—"Nadia Nielsen! I never loved you! It's better the baby's gone! Touch Faye, and I'll make

After that day, Jace acted like nothing had changed. He still ate with me, went to school with me, watched movies with me. He still loved curling up in my arms, acting spoiled, throwing little fits. The only difference was that every night, he'd go out for his so-called "extra studying" and come home late.He said he was tutoring his useless friends. But where he actually went—and what he actually did—twenty-eight-year-old Jace sent me everything.Every night, he went with Faye to the lounge where she worked. He booked the most expensive private room, did absolutely nothing, and ordered an entire table full of food for her."You're way too skinny. We're in the same class, and you're still this underfed? If people find out, they'll laugh at me. You have to try everything. And if you don't finish it, you're not leaving work."After saying that, he tossed down a stack of cash.As he watched Faye eat tiny bites, his eyes slowly drifted. Then Faye looked up.Their eyes met. Both

Third-Person POV"Faye! Faye, are you okay?!"Jace rushed into the abandoned building. The second he saw her, he ran over. She threw herself straight into his arms."Jace!"The warmth of her body against his made his heart jolt. Then Nadia's face flashed through his mind—That empty look. That complete disappointment. He gently pulled Faye back and checked for injuries. The second he crouched down, a sharp pain hit his chest. Then it turned hollow, like something had been ripped out.Faye quickly caught him.In the distance, the group of men started shouting."It wasn't us!""She was the one who called us—"Before they could finish, Jace grabbed a steel pipe and swung it down again and again."Still lying? If it wasn't for you! If it wasn't for you—!"'If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have slapped Nadia.'He never said it, but he knew exactly how much he regretted it.He pulled out his phone to call the police, but Faye stopped him."Jace, don't. If Nadia really told

The older Jace's expression stiffened. He was about to argue when he saw the younger Jace answer a call.He shot to his feet, excitement instantly lighting up his face."Grandma's back."He was already heading for the door."I'm going home to see her."Jace's grandmother, Olivia, had raised Jace when he was little. She was the person he was closest to.But that wasn't the only reason he was excited. He could finally see Nadia again. Before leaving, he bought gift after gift until the trunk of his car was packed full.He kept thinking about how he was going to apologize.Even if she slapped him once—Or twice—He'd take it gladly.Anything was better than this silence.Faye stood nearby, watching him rush around. Her expression darkened, but she couldn't say anything. She shot a helpless look at twenty-eight-year-old Jace, hoping he'd say something bad about Nadia again.Instead, he sat there holding his cup, lost in thought. After dropping Faye off across town, Jace h
