Semua Bab Seven Years Later, the Alpha Didn't Recognize His Own Pup: Bab 1 - Bab 10

I just stood there, dumbly staring at the moonlight grass smashed beneath Theodore's foot.A figure stepped between us.I looked up. It was Theodore's Beta. His eyes flicked to the frayed hem of my trousers. He pulled out a tablet and scrolled through it."Emma Windsor. You were exiled from Crimson Flame Pack for seven years. How dare you sneak back?"He found the record and let out a small, mocking sound."Hm. Seven years was up a month ago. I can't believe you have the nerve to come back."His eyes darted between Theodore and me. He sneered. "Heard the Alpha was coming, so you showed up to throw yourself at him?""At least put on something decent. What's with this trash you're wearing?"The pain came late. I couldn't help a low groan.I turned my head and met Theodore's eyes. His chin was tipped up, hard as a hammer aimed at my skull. His collar hung open, baring a stretch of pale, cold neck.He sized me up in silence.Words were useless between us.Every wolf in the pack knew how mu

The auction ended. I left with the crowd.Somehow, I always felt Theodore’s gaze lingering on my back.A strange tingle ran down my spine, as if pierced through by spears.Footsteps came up behind me, fast.My heart climbed into my throat. Then I heard the Beta's voice, and it dropped again. He called for me to stop. He held a white silk scarf in his hand."A gift from Miss Lillian. Put it on."He didn't wait for my answer. He wound it around my neck and stepped back to look. The scarf smelled like Lillian's perfume. Underneath that, something else. Something I knew.Cedar after snowfall. Theodore.I shuddered. I yanked the scarf off without thinking, breathing hard. The Beta scowled, grabbed the scarf back, and wound it around my neck again."This is the Luna's gift. And her order. You don't get to take it off."His sneer sharpened. "Or did you forget? Seven years ago you broke the mate bond and damaged the Alpha's wolf. That's why you were exiled. The minute you come back, you defy t

His brows pulled tight. His lips pressed into a flat line.A pair of dark eyes pushed down on me, heavy as the cloud cover before a storm. The pain crackled across my whole body. I curled in on myself. My mind was starting to blur. The next second, the world flipped upside down. He'd thrown me over his shoulder. He carried me out hunched, as if he was carrying something he could barely lift. We left the bar.I fought him, told him to put me down. He held on tighter. The streets rushed past me backward. They started to look familiar. When he finally set me down under a tree, I recognized it.He'd brought me back to the orphanage. He climbed the tree and pulled down red berries. He gripped my jaw too hard. My mouth opened by force. He crushed the berries and squeezed the red juice into my mouth. From a distance, it would have looked like I was drinking his blood."These cancel wolfsbane." His eyes dropped to my throat. He smiled coldly. "Sometimes I really do want to bite right through y

Theodore's hand closed on my throat like a clamp. I couldn't breathe.Lucas heard the commotion. He ran out barefoot. His eyes were already red. He started beating his small fists against Theodore. "Let go of my mommy!"Theodore glanced down at him, shoved him aside, and said flatly, "You're as foolish as your mother."Then Theodore let me go. I crashed onto the floor.Lucas threw himself into my arms. His little hands flew to my face.I saw the tears welling in his eyes and pulled him in tight. His heart had to be breaking right now.Under his pillow, he kept a photograph of Theodore. He had always known. He had always known Theodore was his father.Daddy was a powerful Alpha. A hero with endless strength. He was a hero's son. He wouldn't bow to his sickness. On every night the pain came, he would curl into me and whisper his father's name under his breath. In his dreams, his father had come back. His father told him he was brave. As brave as his father. A little man.His father said

Lucas was out of immediate danger. But he wouldn't wake up. The doctors didn't know when, or if.Moonlight came through the window onto his pale face, like a thin layer of snow.I sat staring at him. From the corner of my eye, I saw Lillian. She couldn't hide her smile. She untied her scarf and wrapped it gently around my neck."Since Lucas is the Alpha's son, I'll take on the Luna's duty. I'll adopt him.""Don't worry. I'll treat him like my own. He can even call me Mommy."She smiled. The smile of someone who had already won.She thought she had.Lucas was alive but might as well have been dead. Between Theodore and me there was now another wound that wouldn't heal. She had finally covered the mark on my neck. Theodore would mark her next. She would officially be Luna. She didn't know what kind of she-wolf I was.The world had bared its teeth at me since I was small. It had never finished me off. What hadn't killed me had only made me harder.I'd been hiding from Theodore because I w
