Gianne I arrived at work with today's task on my mind. Everything I have to do feels like a heavy burden on my shoulders. I sat in front of my laptop to draft out something for the day. I'll go brief my boss about the day in ten minutes. I heard he's especially on edge today, one wrong move and you'll be scolded like never before. How is that even possible when he doesn't talk much? “Let's see what we're doing for today.” I clicked a folder on my computer. Employment process and staff checks. The main goal is to fish out Thor's pawns and eliminate them. But how will I know when he always makes sure to avoid suspicion? I twirled on my chair as if it'll make my thought process faster, it did. I stopped and opened a new page on the computer, typed in childhood. Thor doesn't recruit loyal people, he recruits people he has something against. People with something to lose, people like me. He most likely forged their papers and childhood too. Everything will be cross checked for a week

Gianne I closed my eyes, pushing the thoughts away. I felt like I was in a void for a minute until I couldn't control my neck anymore, and my head hit his shoulder lightly. My eyes opened halfway, cheeks flushed red from embarrassment as I planned my apology, but he held my head right in position so I could rest properly on his shoulder. The seat moved back a bit as I leaned against him. I closed my eyes again, planning to pretend I was still sleeping for just a few minutes. I kept at it for a few minutes until I lost track of time. When I opened my eyes again, they felt swollen. And my arms... They were around his neck. Holy s***. What did I do? I jumped up. Even he was asleep. I had startled him. His green eyes opened, and he stared into my soul. The car hadn't moved. I double-tapped my phone screen to check the time. It's been over an hour. I've been sleeping in that position for over an hour. I covered my eyes in shame. I must have thought he was my teddy bear, a very expens

This couldn't be Thor retaliating. He definitely needs Lucian alive if he's risking positioning me inside his company. I still know he knows something. The sun had already set, and the streetlights were beginning to come on one after another. I didn't have much time left to sort things out. I walked down the sidewalk, acting nonchalant toward the bodyguard and chauffeur. The car followed me slowly. The chauffeur rolled down the window to speak to me, but I turned away. "Don't say a thing unless it's good news." The car stopped. The bodyguard got out and grabbed my hand. "Ma'am, it's getting late." He held me firmly enough to stop me, but not enough to bruise my wrist. "I'm waiting for someone. I have somewhere to be." I forced his grip loose and took two steps forward. Then I stopped, turned back, and opened the car door. Yes. He might have left something behind while I was busy getting distracted. I searched through the car, checking the seat pockets, beneath the armrest, and

LUCIAN I covered my ears. We were far enough from the blast, yet the impact still reached us. A sharp ringing filled my ears, growing louder by the second. I kept pressing my palms against them, trying to get it under control. I got into the car, and we drove away from the scene. The bodyguard was still lying where we'd left him, groaning in pain. Before we left, I ordered my men to loosen the restraints around him. His brother would deal with the consequences of his own choices. Someone else would handle the rest. I loosened my tie, exposing my collarbone. Sweat clung to my shirt. This was the second shirt I'd soaked through today, and I hadn't brought another one. The ringing slowly turned into a pounding headache. "Drive me to the hospital," I instructed the driver. I'd been warned years ago not to get too close to explosions or ignore prolonged ringing afterward. I grabbed a bottle of water, took a few long drinks, then poured some over my face. It cooled me down, but the head

Gianne I turned over in bed as I tried to find sleep before going about my day, but I couldn't because I had something to do. I got up, opened my Notes app, and studied what I'd written down. I didn't know if I should start this one yet. If I did today, I wouldn't be able to finish it. I went through my unfinished painting collection in my wardrobe. The last time I painted was in high school. I don't even tell people I paint. I took out one of my unfinished paintings and brought out my painting kit. Incomplete. I sighed. What was I expecting? This was the one my sister used last year. Orion's call came through. "Hello." "Mr. Blackwood is participating in an orphanage charity event today. I have something urgent to do. I'll forward you the address. Come." He said it all in a rush before hanging up. I didn't know Lucian had something to do today. He didn't bother telling me. A charity event? I thought he was one of those selfish, cold billionaires. I slipped into something com
