Sorrel’s POVThe call came in the early hours of the morning. Poppy was banging relentlessly on my door.“What is it?” I threw the door open and asked. “Do you want to wake the entire pack house?”“Your highness—“ she was panting. I poked my head out to see if she was being chased or to find out why she was banging on my door this early in the morning.“The Alpha—“Dead? Is the Alpha dead?I could hear the chaos coming from downstairs, the commotion, yelling, and the heavy pounds of warriors’ boots.I grabbed Poppy by the shoulder, “Talk to me, what’s the problem?” Is the Alpha dead? “Did something happen to the alpha?” I tried for something more demure and discreet.“Almost.” My heart leaped, almost…..then.Fear struck me and every hope I had was sliced clean. She didn’t need to say the next word for me to know what the commotion was about.“Lady Abigeal tried to murder the king.”Even already anticipating the words, hearing them and confirming them settled in my gut like a stone i

Abigeal’s POVThe cell was cold, bitterly cold and I had been stripped to nothing but my undies. Nathaniel didn’t order this, but he didn’t have to, all the guards were doing what they presumed was fitting for trying to murder their sweet, kind-hearted Alpha.I wrapped my arms around my body to warm myself up. It did little to bring the heat I craved and it was worse for me since my wolf had gone dormant. There was a banging on the cell door and a figure appeared at the dark hour of the night.“You have a visitor,” the guard on duty said harshly.“I don’t want to talk to anyone.” I had my back to him, still rubbing my arms, desperate for some warmth.“You do not have a choice. It’s the Luna.”A cold weight settled in my chest as I heard that. She had told me to wait, to be careful and be patient, but I hadn’t been because I couldn’t be. Not anymore. However, I felt like I must have walked into even bigger trouble.“I don’t want to see her either!” I looked away from him.The guard cur

Sorrel’s POVIt was the third day of Abigeal’s imprisonment, she wouldn’t see me and to some extent I understood why.She didn’t want to sully my hands as well as hers so I’d let her be.My mother had been brought into the pack house, Nathaniel insisted on it. Said it wasn’t good for the Luna’s mother to remain in the infirmary.Poppy was in my room, fixing my hair. Her eyes met mine in the mirror. It was the second time it had happened today, and she only did that when she had a lot on her mind.“Spill.” I sighed. “What do you want to say so badly?”“Are you sick?” She asked out of the blue. I placed my hand over my thighs, feeling the smooth and cool feeling of my dress.“What propelled you to ask that?” She began unwinding my hair from the little rod that held it in place“You vomited in the dungeon,” she said. “You never called the royal physician to check on you.”I remembered that vividly well, the dungeon and the stench emitting from it had made me nauseous and I’d thrown up

Sorrel’s POVI was waiting for the divine moment our lips would touch—but then I heard a knock and I jumped away from him. Faster than a lightning bolt. I stood by the candle, heart in my throat. Then the door flew open to Mel and Poppy.“Ladies.” I curtsied. “Is there a problem?”My face was flushed and my heart was pounding in such a way I feared it might give us away.*But nothing happened* Nadia said with an eye roll. *You should have been faster*Ignoring her, I turned to Kaine who was frozen like a statue.“We came to see if you are through with the section.”I gave them a butter smile, it spread over my face and down through my body.“We are not. If you don’t mind—“ then an idea dropped in my head. I faced Mel.“Mel?” I called sweetly.“Yes, your highness.”“Why did the oracle leave the pack house when the plague is far from over or in this case, discovered at all? Are you abandoning your duties now?”Mel quickly shook her head. “Of course not, your highness. The oracle and I a

Abigeal’s POVMy heart fell as I saw Nathaniel close the door behind him. I knew this moment was coming from the very time I kept breathing and he proclaimed his mercy on me, and yet, it still didn’t prepare me for the brutality that was coming from him.“What do you want?” I demanded, forcing myself to remain brave even if I felt anything but.“Now that’s not the way to speak to your Alpha and brother little sister.”I swallowed and pinned my gaze on his. “You are not my alpha or brother, asshole. You are a monster—“My face fell to the side and my ears rang deafening me for a minute. The side of my face where he had struck burned and pulsed with heat energy.Tears welled up in my eyes as I lifted my head, “Why are you mad, is that not what you are?”He grabbed my neck in a blink of an eye and compressed it.“You will show me respect, whore!” He spat. “You think your little plan to kill me is going to work?”He chuckled, the sound dark and scary. “You are going to regret your action
