Ariana’s POVThe silver stone continued to glow beneath the ancient chamber and the hunter leader’s words remained inside my head.If I cannot control your child, I will destroy the bloodline before it is born.I placed my hand over my stomach and the baby moved.Once, twice. And then I looked at Kael, then at Lyra, then at Damien.“We end this now.”Kael stared at me.“Ariana…”“No more running.”I stepped forward.“No more hiding. No more ancient commands. No more hunters deciding who deserves to live.”My voice echoed through the chamber.“This war ends tonight.”Damien nodded.“I agree.”Lyra stepped beside me.“So do I.”Kael looked at the three of us and then he smiled.“Then we finish it together.”We returned to the surface and the palace was barely standing.Smoke filled the air, warriors were gathering in the courtyard and some still wore the royal colours.Others had once fought for the hunters but had broken free when Lyra and I joined our powers. For years, these people h

Ariana’s POVPain tore through my stomach again and then I clung to Kael as another wave passed through me.The baby moved violently beneath my hand and it was not like before. This time, I could feel the ancient power surrounding the child and the hunter leader was doing something. His power was reaching through the throne and into my baby.“Get away from the throne!” my mother shouted.Kael pulled me backward and then the hunter leader laughed.“You are too late.”I looked at my stomach and the baby moved again.A pulse of silver light passed through my body and then I gasped.“He is affecting the baby.”My mother rushed towards me.“Yes.”“How do we stop it?”She looked towards the ancient throne.“Destroy it.”Kael looked at her.“We already destroyed the main throne.”“The heart remains.”My mother pointed towards the glowing stone beneath the ruins.“That is what he is using. As long as that heart exists, his connection to the bloodline remains.”I looked at the hunter leader an

Ariana’s POVThe hunter leader’s laughter faded and his body went still beneath the broken stones and then his eyes closed. He was dead.I should have felt relief but instead, pain exploded through my stomach and then I screamed.Kael caught me before my knees hit the ground.“Ariana!”I grabbed his arm.“My baby.”Another wave tore through me and then I pressed both hands against my stomach. The baby was moving, too much, too violently and then something dark moved beneath my skin and my mother rushed towards me.“Put her down.”Kael lowered me carefully.“What is happening?”My mother placed her hand over my stomach and then her face changed.“No.”“What?” Kael asked. She looked at Damien.“His blood.”Damien staggered and he grabbed his chest and then a dark mark spread across his skin and he dropped to one knee.“I can feel it.”I looked at him.“What do you feel?”“The hunter.”His breathing became harder.“He is dead, but his blood is still moving.”Lyra rushed to his side.“

Ariana’s POVI stared at my mother.“They have changed?”She nodded.“I don’t understand.”“Then feel.”I looked down at my hands and then for several seconds, nothing happened but I just I felt foolish. Then I closed my eyes and I stopped thinking about the throne, I stopped thinking about the crown and I stopped thinking about the ancient Moonborn Queens.I thought about myself, about my blood and about my child and the a warm feeling spread through my chest and I gasped.Silver light appeared between my fingers but it was different. It didn’t come from the throne, it didn’t come from the broken crown, it came from inside me.I looked at my hands in disbelief.“I can feel it.”Kael stepped closer.“Your power?”I nodded.“But it feels different.”My mother smiled.“Because it belongs to you now.”I stared at the silver light and it moved with my heartbeat.Every time my heart beat, the light became stronger and then the baby moved, the silver light brightened and then I gasped.“

Ariana’s POVThe pain became unbearable and then I held Kael’s hand as another contraction tore through me.“I can’t.”My voice broke.Kael leaned closer.“Yes, you can.”“No.”“You can.”“I can’t do this anymore.”My mother stood beside me.“You have to keep going, Ariana.”I shook my head.“I’m tired.”“I know.”“I want it to stop.”“It will.”“When?”“When your baby is in your arms.”I closed my eyes and then another contraction came and I screamed.Kael didn’t let go of my hand and his fingers were trapped in mine, but he never complained.“I’m here.”I looked at him through my tears.“You promised.”“I did.”“You’re not leaving?”“Never.”My mother checked me again.“The baby is almost here.”My heart raced.“Almost?”“Yes.”Fear filled my chest.“I don’t know if I can.”Kael touched my face.“Look at me.”I opened my eyes.“You have survived rejection.”He counted slowly.“You survived hunters.”Another contraction came.“You survived the throne.”I cried out.“You survived the
