HERMES' POVAt ten thousand feet, I spread the case files across the tray table again, even though I'd already gone through them twice. Handprints. Manuscripts. A partial license plate that didn't match anything on record yet.Something about the clues felt different from the cases I usually worked on. Everything seemed too clean, too carefully staged, as if someone wanted me to find only those clues....and nothing more.It was more frustrating than it looked,I took a deep sip of the vintage wine,it used to taste amazing, but now it went down my throat like water.Hitting one dead end after another made this the most frustrating investigation I'd ever worked on.The plane landed in Australia just after 2:00 a.m., local time. My assistant, Dario, was already waiting at the bottom of the stairs with a tablet in his hand before the engines had even stopped."Sir, the company's earnings are up by four percent since the last quarter. The board wants to meet with you before tomorrow's sessi

LIANA'S POVI got home and threw my bag onto the chair harder than I meant to, then screamed straight into my pillow until my throat ached.“Arghh… today was the worst moment of my damn life.”“I hate school!!" I couldn't help but kick off the shoe from my legs and heard it land on anywhere but the floor.I rolled over the couch lazily and angered. I hate my life, I hate my school, I hate everything. At that moment I heard a soft knock from behind me.Madam Iris peeked her head in, brows already pulled with concern. "Liana? What's wrong?”I immediately sat up, worst I was Shy… Madam Iris has caught me kissing Hermes. She was the only maid in the mansion, middle aged and soft spoken.“It's nothing, thank you.” I said, grabbing my shoe from where I had thrown it into. She suddenly came up to me and held my shoe in her hands. " I was going to apologize for the hot soup I had poured on you, it wasn't deliberate.”Great, this is a draw. She caught me kissing Hermes and had mistakenly pour

LIANA'S POVAfter calling 911 I was more grateful they took the emergency as quickly as it was in just five minutes. The ambulance lights strobed across the driveway before I'd even finished giving the operator our address.I sat in the back beside the paramedics, Iris's hand still in mine, blood dried into the creases of my fingers, praying under my breath the entire ride, praying to a God I wasn't sure was listening.I noticed how Iris's chest was rising and falling, not obvious but little… that… that gave me a little hope, a little hope that nothing was going to happen to her and she was going to be fine.At the hospital they wheeled her straight into the emergency wing, and a nurse pulled me aside almost immediately with a clipboard, asking me to sign her in."I can't." My voice cracked. "I'm not family. She's….. she works for us. She's our housekeeper."I said nervously, I didn't even know her last name, just Madam Iris. The nurse's expression flickered, but she nodded, already m

LIANA'S POV“Welcome Mr Hermes…”They all bowed simultaneously…I stood up immediately, the handcuffs now secured in front of me after I complained that keeping my hands cuffed behind my back was causing me pain.I ran up to Hermes with tears in my eyes and threw myself into him before I even realised I was moving, my hands on his head as I pressed my body against him, inhaling his unique scent. He'd come straight from wherever he'd been, dark coat still creased from travel, his jaw shadowed, exhaustion carved into the lines around his eyes, but none of that mattered. He was here. Tall, solid, achingly familiar, and I buried my face against his chest and just breathed him in, that same scent that had always meant safety long before it meant anything else."I didn't do it," I choked out against him. "Hermes, I swear, I didn't touch her, I would never…""I know." His arms came around me, one hand pressing flat against the back of my head, holding me there. "I know, princess. I already

LIANA'S POVI flinched the moment the door was pushed open.Even worse it was Dorie, who seemed to be Hermes' assistant from his company…I know too well kissing my 44yrs old stepfather wasn't the right thing to do but I did anyway…Dorie stood there the moment he saw us for a grudging second, I wasn't sure what his expression did but it didn't seem right at all. He was already halfway into an apology, eyes darted away from us like he could unsee what he'd just walked in on. "Sir, I'm so sorry, I'll come back…""Get in," Hermes said, not even breaking from settling me into the passenger seat, buckling my belt himself before shutting the door.Hermes seemed unbothered by Dorie's presence, I mean he was just caught with me and him…doing something very outrageous.Wasn't he scared of scandals?Wasn't he scared of the law?My heart raced so hard that I feared it would rush out the next second while Hermes looked so chilled like he controlled the air we breathed. He immediately started the
