Silas woke up to a sharp, chemical smell in the air. His eyes slowly opened. He was lying on his back on a cold, smooth metal floor, staring up at a thick, clear dome above him. It looked like some kind of high-security holding cell, and the lights were dim.He groaned and touched his aching head. That’s when he noticed the heavy metal cuff locked around his left wrist, chained to the floor. He sat up fast, looking around the small room.“You’re finally awake,” Daniel said quietly.Daniel was sitting cross-legged on the other side of the cell. Silas felt annoyed right away—Daniel’s cuffs were off and lying on the floor next to him.“How the hell are you free?” Silas hissed, his throat dry and sore. “Why am I the one chained up like a dangerous criminal while you get to relax?”Daniel gave a small, tired smile and tapped his belt. “I took the neuro-stimulant pill the second I heard the dart hit. It canceled out the sedative before it could knock me out. I pretended to pass out so they’

"Daniel, step on it! They’re gaining on us!" Silas screamed, his fingers digging into the dashboard as he looked back through the shattered rear window in panic.Behind them, the dark industrial area lit up with the bright headlights of three sleek black NexMind security SUVs. The heavy vehicles tore through the tall grass, quickly closing the gap."I’m stepping on it!" Daniel yelled back, arms straining as he yanked the big steering wheel hard to the left. The engine roared and vibrated under their feet. "This is a slow utility tractor, Silas! It only goes about twenty-five miles per hour and was built for warehouses, not racing through muddy fields!""Well, drive smarter!" Silas barked. He leaned way out the side to keep an eye on the headlights. "If they ram us, this whole cab is going to collapse!"Daniel gritted his teeth and fought with the gear stick, swerving the clumsy tractor between rusted containers and piles of concrete, trying to lose the SUVs.It didn’t last long. The l

The sleek sports car rolled to a stop just outside the tall concrete walls of the Smirnov estate. The police lights were long gone, and the big driveway sat in thick, heavy darkness. At the main iron gate, Milana glanced over at the passenger seat, her face tense."Ara, you gotta hide in the back footwell right now," she whispered. "The guards are still on high alert. If they spot a third person in here, the whole gate will lock down."Ara gave a quick nod. She tucked her big blade away into her inventory, then squeezed into the tight space behind the seats. She lay flat on the floor and pulled a dark tarp over herself to stay hidden.Maksim lowered the driver’s window as the heavy gate hummed open. The estate guards walked up, shining their flashlights inside, but when they saw the twins, they didn’t bother searching the car. The coupe rolled smoothly up the long driveway toward the big white mansion.Once they parked in the circular courtyard, the twins moved fast. They pulled the r

The concrete floor echoed under Ronan’s heavy boots as he paced back and forth across the warehouse. His jaw was locked tight, teeth grinding, dark eyes fixed on the main door. Ara had left with the Smirnov twins four hours ago, and they hadn’t heard a single thing from her since. No messages. No signals. Just heavy, terrifying silence. He spun around and glared at the operations desk. "Silas," he barked, voice tight with anger. "Check the dashboard again. Anything from the emergency GPS wristband? A location ping? Anything at all?" Silas kept his eyes on the glowing screens, fingers flying over the keyboard. His face looked just as stressed under the bright lights. "I’ve checked it twelve times in the last ten minutes, Ronan. The signal is completely dead. No relay, nothing. Yelling at me won’t make it work." "Then try harder!" Ronan snapped, marching over to the desk, his big shadow falling across the technician. "You built the tracker. You said it was hooked straight into your ma

The jeep rolled into the concrete sprawl of the city square under the cover of midnight. Getting there had turned into a slow, nerve-wracking exercise—they'd looped through three separate industrial districts, cutting through narrow service alleys and dark delivery lanes just to avoid a string of police checkpoints. With the city tightening its perimeter ahead of phase one, getting stopped meant losing the vehicle and every piece of gear in it.Ronan kept both hands on the wheel, scanning the neon storefronts as they passed. In the backseat, Silas had already dozed off. Forty-eight straight hours of running system overrides had finally caught up with him. His chin had dropped to his chest, his fingers slack around the edge of his console.Ronan glanced in the rearview mirror, jaw tightening. He reached back and shook Silas's shoulder, hard enough to jolt him out of it."Wake up, tech," Ronan growled. "We're on site. I need your eyes on the sensor array, not shut behind your eyelids."
