“Move,” Simon said to them and Adriana and the rest of the slaves went out of the room. They saw Aaron turning into a corner, and they followed him. They saw three carriages already waiting for them, with two guards beside them.One of them opened a carriage door and Aaron got in. Then, the other guard walked towards them.“Be on a straight line and get into the carriages.” He said to them and they obliged.Adriana entered the last carriage with only a tiny space left for her to sit. The slaves in the quarters stirred as the sun rose on the horizon and activities bustled around them.The door creaked open and the guard from last night came in.“Arise from your slumber and get ready to be assigned to your day's work.”Adriana tapped Erica who was still sleeping beside her and she stirred awake.They scrambled out of the quarters falling into line and went to stand before Miranda who was waiting for them outside.“Ladies, today is your first day and I don't want sluggishness. Adriana scrubbed the floor and her stomach grumbled.She had been assigned to the horse stable and had been told to pack the horse waste and also scrub the grounds till it was sparkling before she could eat.Her hand throbbed from all the scrubbing but she went on.She needed to be done with this and rest and her stomach needed to be fed.She heard noises coming from outside then footsteps entered the stable and stopped. Adriana woke up with a groan, feeling the stiffness in her neck and hands.Erica was patting her hand trying to wake her up and Adriana turned away opening her eyes.She groaned again and sat up slowly.“We have to go out for the day's work. Adriana moved to the last stable and bent down to scrub the floors.
