Adriana knocked on Marcus’s room holding a food tray and the door opened.Marcus came out and smiled at her.“I'm here with your lunch tray, Your highness,” Adriana announced but a small smile graced her lips.“Come in.” He widened the door and Adriana's eyes darted around before she stepped inside and Marcus shut the door.“You can start eating, I'll join you soon,” Marcus said to her and disappeared into an inner room.Adriana licked her lips and sat on a stool. She took a knife and divided the steak into two pieces. The slaves gathered around, chatting and laughing over small jokes. They were all outside, unwilling to stay inside because of the tremendous heat and now outside they had to battle with the bloodsucking insects of the night.Adriana sat quietly with Erica, who rested her head on her shoulder. She watched the slaves and smiled occasionally as their laughter rang out.She admired them.
