All Chapters of BOUGHT BY THE RUTHLESS CEO : Chapter 71 - Chapter 80

CLARA'S POV The rain against the glass of Volkov Global became the background noise for the next three days. Inside the office, the heavy tension from the Maybach dissolved back into the familiar, demanding rhythm of our work. Files accumulated, digital signatures were cleared, and the daily operations of an empire moved forward. Yet, the shift between us remained. It was visible in the way Ares handed over the morning briefs without his usual clipped instructions, or how he paused by the edge of my desk just a second longer than necessary before entering his private office. "The quarterly projections for the maritime logistics merger are short two percentage points on the projected synergy margins," I said, stepping into his office on Thursday morning. I laid the folder on his desk, tapping the edge to align it with his leather blotter. "Your analysts are being overly conservative with the Baltic port integration." Ares looked up from his monitor. He didn't immediately rea

CLARA'S POV The text message arrived at six in the morning, long before the sun had cleared the glass crowns of the financial district. It wasn't from Ares, and it wasn't from any of the standard Volkov Global secure channels. It was an automated alert from a dormant custody account under the Sterling family name—one of the few remaining legal entities my father hadn't completely gutted before his downfall. *Liquidation Protocol Initiated: Account ST-994. Automatic transfer scheduled for 0900 GMT.* I sat up in bed, the sheets falling away as I stared at the glowing screen. I knew that account. It held a fifteen-percent equity stake in a regional shipping company whose terminals connected directly to the Baltic port network Ares had spent the last three days restructuring. It wasn't the largest Sterling asset left, but strategically, it mattered far more than its valuation suggested. If that block liquidated at auction, a hostile hedge fund would snap it up, fracturing Ares’s

The rainy season in the city always made the concrete look heavier, but inside the private room of the boutique hotel downtown, the air felt completely stagnant. I sat on the low velvet sofa, my hands wrapped tightly around a cup of tea I had no intention of drinking. The door opened, and Julian walked in. He didn't look like the confident executive who used to manage my father's secondary portfolios, nor did he look like a desperate fugitive. He wore a simple dark coat, his face slightly lined with a fatigue that hadn't been there six months ago. He stopped a few feet away from me, his eyes searching my face with a careful, hesitant familiarity. "Clara," he said softly. "I wasn't sure you'd actually come alone." "Ares knows I'm here, Julian," I replied, keeping my voice flat and completely devoid of warmth. "If that's what you're worried about. I didn't come to play games. I came because you sent a message saying you had the missing piece of the Sterling liquidation files."

CLARA'S POV The black folder sat between us on the polished mahogany desk like an unexploded shell. Outside, the city traffic hummed through the rain-slicked glass, but inside the study, the silence was absolute. Ares didn't sit down. He stood by the window, his back to me, his broad shoulders rigid against the dim amber light of the room. "Open it," he said, his voice flat and tight. I pulled the folder toward me. My fingers were cold as I unfolded the thick security seals. I expected to see more financial ledgers, more offshore routings, or perhaps another list of liquidated assets. Instead, the first page was an old photographic scan of a research document dated nearly thirty years ago. At the top of the header, printed in stark, faded lettering, was a single word: ACER. "I saw this name buried in a shell company record in the Maybach a few days ago," I said, looking up at his silhouette. "I thought it was just another one of my father’s dead development projects. A faile

CLARA'S POV The transition back to the Acer files the following afternoon felt different. The air in the study was no longer thick with defensive posturing; instead, it carried the quiet, focused energy of a shared mission. Ares had laid out the primary architecture maps across the center conference table, his sleeves rolled up as he cross-referenced the server pathways on his laptop. I leaned over the master schematic, my eyes tracking the digital code blocks he had managed to decrypt from Julian’s flash drive. "The structural loop is broken here," Ares muttered, tapping a section of the screen with a pen. "Every time I attempt to execute the secondary decryption sequence, the data routes into a dead-end server in Zurich. Edward must have deleted the intermediate transfer records before the bankruptcy filing. The trail stops cold." I looked at the schematic, my mind instantly shifting into the analytical headspace I had developed after years of watching my father manipula
