Lahat ng Kabanata ng Burning For My Husband's Son: Kabanata 11 - Kabanata 20

VEDAMy lips still burned from the ghost contact with Zane’s. Even now, I could still feel the electriczing from his touch.I stood in the living room, staring through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the gray Connecticutsky. For the last three hours, I had tried to push the scent of cedar and expensive tobaccoout of my mind. But every time I closed my eyes, I remembered the heavy weight of his bodypinning me against the kitchen counter.Get a grip, Veda.He was a distraction.A dangerous, arrogant distraction I couldn't afford when I was only months away fromfreedom."You're hovering, Veda. It makes the room feel smaller." Silas's calm, cold voice cut throughmy thoughts.I turned around at once, putting on a soft, pleasant smile.Silas sat behind his walnut desk, reading through a stack of legal papers. Across from him,Luna sat on the velvet sofa in a pastel pink trench coat. Her bright green eyes followed myevery move like a cat watching a mouse.I really didn’t understand w

ZANEMy brain was still locked on the taste of her. A taste I didn’t even get a chance to savorbefore she slapped me.Again.I was really letting that woman believe she had an upper hand with me. She’ll learn soonenough.I paced the floor of the garage apartment, my boots thudding against the woodenfloorboards. On the desk, Marcus had his laptop open, but he wasn’t typing. Instead, he wascleaning the parts of his gun, his movements slow and steady."I can't get into his computer files from here, Zane," Marcus said, setting a metal piece downwith a soft click. He looked up, his blue eyes serious under his short buzz cut."Silas has apassword lock on his personal network. I tried to guess it, but if I try one more time, thewhole system will lock me out and send an alarm straight to his phone.""There has to be a physical copy of his passwords," I said, stopping by the window."Or akey to his private desk. Silas is old-school. He doesn't trust computers completely. I’m surehe

The heat rising from the stone terrace felt like it was burning through the bottom of my shoes.Zane did not move at all. His huge body blocked the morning sun, covering me in a long, dark shadow. My back was trapped against the sharp edge of the glass table. The glass gave a small creak behind my hips from the pressure. I could smell the strong scent of tobacco on his gray shirt mixed with the sweet smell of the crushed strawberries left on the white plates."Get out of my face, Zane," I whispered. My voice shook with anger and fear. My eyes darted to the dark glass doors of the house. A maid could literally walk in at any moment. What the fuck was he playing at? "Your job, like you so graciously told everyone, is to watch me, not to embarrass me in front of the most powerful women in this city."Zane let out a low sound from deep in his throat, leaning even closer until his chest almost touched the front of my lavender sundress."Embarrass you?" he murmured. His coffee-brown eyes w

The heavy glass doors of the boutique swung open, and a blast of freezing air hit the damp silk of my lavender dress, making me shiver. The boutique was filled with white marble floors and gold clothing racks. The moment we walked inside, the two young salesgirls/stylists at the front desk stopped talking. Their eyes barely landed on me before locking onto Zane. Why am I even surprised. The man literally stood a full head taller than everyone else. His dark blond curls were messy, his white shirt stretched tightly across his broad chest, and there was something wild and dangerous about him that didn't belong in a place this expensive. "Welcome back, Mr. Sterling," the taller girl said sweetly, her eyes fixed on him. "We have the room ready for Mrs. Sterling's fitting. Right this way." Zane didn't even smile. He gave a slow, lazy nod and shoved his hands deep into his pockets as he followed us toward the private fitting room. "Make it quick," he muttered. His rough voice alone made

ZANEThe shadow blocked the light on my side of the window. Instead of freezing, I reacted. Before Veda could scream, I caught her shoulders and shoved her down into the dark spacebetween the passenger seat and the dash. My left arm slammed across her waist, pinningher flat against the leather where the tinted glass kept her hidden.I leaned back against the driver's door, blocking the interior view with my shoulders, thendropped the window two inches. Soon after, two heavy knocks hit the frame."Mr. Zane?" Marcus's rough voice came through the gap. The head of estate securitynarrowed his eyes against the dark glass."Everything alright out here? Mr. Sterling said youwere bringing the car back, but you've been sitting under this tree for twenty minutes.""Taking a call, Marcus." My pulse didn't even move. I kept my gaze locked on the tree lineahead while my forearm pressed firmly into Veda's ribs. Her quick, shallow breaths hitchedagainst my thigh. And honestly, they weren’t
