Chapter Twenty Two “Dismissed , take a short break “ Creed said authoritatively The trainees began to disperse, their boots scraping against the turf as the heavy, suffocating weight of Creed’s Alpha pressure slowly lifted from the courtyard. But the tension didn't leave with it. Whispers broke out instantly, a low, buzzing hum that vibrated through the ranks. Sideways glances and curious, burning stares were thrown in my direction, then toward the Commander. Everyone wanted to know why the Alpha King-in-waiting had personally brought a Delta to his knees to protect a rejected omega.I didn't give them the satisfaction of a show. Tightening my jaw against the sharp, throbbing ache in my ribs, I turned on my heel and marched away from the grid, desperate to leave the suffocating audience behind."Hazel."His voice caught me just as I cleared the edge of the stone archway leading out of the main courtyard. It was low, steady, and entirely too close. He had followed me.I stopped, my f

Chapter 24Hazel’s POV The dark silhouette of a big sized looking combat booths stepped out of the cabin, cutting through the swirling dust with slow, deliberate strides. As the fog parted, the harsh glare of the helicopter’s searchlight caught the sharp lines of a heavy leather flight jacket, black tactical combat boots, and dark aviator glasses reflecting the morning mist.My breath caught in my throat.Creed.He stopped a few feet away from my hiding spot, his hands tucked casually into his jacket pockets. Even with his eyes hidden behind the dark lenses of his aviators, I could feel his gaze locking onto my trembling, dust-covered frame."Didn’t know you were such a scared baby," he said, his deep voice easily cutting through the low hum of the idling rotor blades.I looked up at him, my heart beating so fast it felt like it would burst through my ribs. My face was still wet with hot tears, and my uniform was ruined from the dirt on the road. "It’s not funny," I whispered, my voi

Chapter 26Hazel’s POVThe air in my lungs turned to pure ice.My feet stayed glued to the cobblestone path outside the towering, gated villa, the bright red fabric of my sunflower dress feeling incredibly heavy against my legs. I pressed my back hard against the cold stone wall, my heart hammering a frantic, agonizing rhythm against my ribs as I peered through the ornate iron bars of the gate. There, in the lush, sunlit courtyard of the estate, stood my mother. She looked beautiful. Elegant. Dressed in flowing cream-colored silks that draped gently over her heavily pregnant belly, she looked like a completely different person from the exhausted, distant woman who had left me and Nana behind to starve in the dirt. But she wasn't alone.Standing right in front of her, his towering frame casting a long, dark shadow across the manicured grass, was Creed. His leather jacket was gone, his black sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing the corded muscle of his forearms. He was speaking to

Chapter 28 Hazel’s POVThe bass from the speakers inside the crowded Italian tavern rattled my teeth, but it couldn't drown out the toxic, high-Alpha trash talking at the long wooden tables.I sat alone at the sticky edge of the bar, the vibrant red fabric of my sunflower dress wrinkled and my heavy combat jacket slung carelessly over the stool. I was already three glasses deep into a dark, heavy Italian wine that tasted like liquid fire, but it wasn’t working fast enough. The image of Creed—his massive, calloused hand pressed tenderly against my mother’s pregnant belly before she pulled him into a deep, lingering kiss—was burned into the back of my eyelids. Every time I blinked, it sliced through my chest all over again.A group of towering trainees from the Southern European pack slid into the booth right next to mine. They were loud, arrogant, and radiating a suffocating Alpha aura that practically screamed superiority."Well, well, look what we have here," one of them sneered, lo

Chapter 30 Creed’s POVThe darkness inside the cave shifted from pitch black to a pale, misty gray as the storm outside finally began to clear. The worst of the freezing cold had retreated, replaced by a suffocating, unnatural heat radiating from Hazel’s small frame. Her skin was burning to the touch. She shifted restlessly against me, slipping in and out of consciousness, trapped somewhere between a feverish nightmare and reality.I couldn't move. I didn't dare to. All I could do was press her tightly against my bare chest beneath the thermal blanket, letting her feel the steady rhythm of my pulse while I listened to the shallow, broken sound of her breathing. Her head rolled weakly against the dip of my neck. Her filter was completely shattered by the fever, her emotional pain spilling out in broken, breathless whimpers."Why..." Her lips barely moved against my skin, her voice small and fragile. "Why wasn't I... enough...?"My entire body went rigid. The breath locked in my throat
