Liam: Hendricks blew the whistle for an unscheduled three-on-three, splitting the lines without his usual roster sheet. First I looked up, expecting Derek or maybe Blake, but no, it was Marcus skating directly at my open side, alone and with no whistle stopping him. I didn't have time, and Hendricks's words resounded in my mind. Without thinking much, I used it the only way four years under Hendricks had ever taught me to use half a second under pressure. I should've braced for the hit, but I turned into it instead, angling my hip low, just enough not to avoid contact but to control where it landed. Marcus's shoulder caught me high on the arm rather than square in the ribs, where I knew with total certainty he'd been aiming. The impact still knocked me sideways hard enough that my skate caught wrong, and I went down on the ice, my breath heavy as pain shot through my shoulder instead of my chest, and for a moment my vision blurred. But it was too quick, and the noise quieted down al

Third POV: The moment Liam and Derek stepped out of the building, Derek was already fuming, his fingers tightening on the steering wheel as he drove out of the parking lot without a word, and Liam didn't say a word either."Faith's Memorial," Liam whispered after they got on the highway.Derek's brows furrowed. "What are you up to? Isn't this medication enough?""I should have my regular checkup with my doctor. If we want evidence and want to make Marcus Webb eat his words, then we have to be ready to prove every defense he will provide is baseless.""I still do not understand why we have to prove anything. He hit you intentionally, and rather than answering to the board, he is on the ice, and you are squandering money around like you have so much to spare.""I do have a little to spare." The ride suddenly fell into quiet, and Liam closed his eyes.Faith's Memorial wasn't far, and Derek was familiar with it. It wasn't only a place he had visited too many times for his own sake, but f

Violet:Every piece of information I could lay my hands on was precious. Ask him about his father. I'd read it so many times the words had forged too many different shapes in my head. Marcus was no orphan, no child with a deadbeat father like I am. He'd rarely mentioned his family, but the few times he did, his voice carried no resentment, none of the weight of a child who'd grown up in an unhealthy environment.I'd had to work most of my life. From the moment I was able to, I followed my mother to the dollar store and sat quietly like a mouse beneath the counter while she bargained prices with unreasonable people, still forcing a smile afterward. Life was hard. My father had the means, but it never reached us. How could it, when his mistress was far more important than the well-being of his family? Moreover, someone like me, who'd had to work her way up, certainly had to kiss goodbye to a lot of comfort, but that wasn't the case with Marcus, who spent more on a skincare routine than

Violet:The cab dropped me off outside Liam's apartment building, my hands clenching my phone hard. I was trembling for reasons I didn't fully understand, and had almost run off without paying when the driver softly called me back. The pitiful look on his face was all he gave me as I ran up the stairs. But as my hand reached for the half-closed door, words hit me."You cloned Violet's phone?" It was Derek's voice. Instinctively, I paused, my legs refusing to move forward, my ears straining to hear more. Every word Liam and Derek said, I heard it all, my body trembling with every reveal, my eyes slowly falling to the phone in my own hand. Liam didn't justify his actions; what was there to justify? We'd promised not to meddle, but every time he did, and just maybe I'd been stupid again to think it was for my own good. Now, standing before his door, I felt stupid.I'd thought he was better than Marcus. I'd had countless dreams where I wished we hadn't started like a one-night stand, mome

Liam:I don't know how I'd managed to book her a cab, but the moment Derek came back, I was still sitting in the same position he'd left me in, my eyes fixed on the screen."You should have told her," he said, sitting down across from me. "You were wrong, but it's for her sake after all," he murmured, turning the open laptop on the coffee table fully toward him."Liam," he called, and looking up from the laptop was when he noticed the change. Derek didn't wait. He quickly rushed to my side, his head popping over my shoulder. Silence settled between us, nothing but our heavy breaths filling a space that suddenly felt limited. An hour ago I hadn't known any of this. I'd only gone to Clifford's Clinic to investigate Marcus. I never thought my actions would lead me to something so sinister."Mom was sick," I whispered finally, breaking the silence, and Derek swallowed hard."I remember Dad telling me the story of how she passed. Even his late brother confirmed it was nothing serious. What
