Lucien POVI closed my eyes. Felt the cold silver blade pressing against my neck. It was sharp enough to draw blood. I did not move. The small pain was nothing compared to the smell of fresh lilies that filled the small room. The smell was strong. Washed over me, making me forget about the dust and the smell of lightning from outside. In the dark, five hundred years disappeared.I remembered the High Conservatory of the Sun Palace. It smelled of soil and warm glass. I was two hundred years old then, wearing armor with silver clasps on my high collar. My leather gloves were covered in blood from a fight a few hours before. I did not like flowers or gardens. I walked through the glass doors because the noise from the meeting rooms was giving me a headache.Sunlight came through the glass ceiling. Made bright squares on the white marble floor. Then I smelled something. It was not the perfume the ladies wore. It was sharp and sweet like cut lilies. The smell went to my lungs and made me s

Lucien POVThe room smelled of copper, fresh lilies, and blood.I held Kael against my chest, his limp head resting in the crook of my elbow. His skin was burning hot again, the frost from my aura melting into drops of sweat that ran down his neck. The line of dark blood at the corner of his mouth was getting thicker."Lucien, wait!" Rin shouted, reaching out a hand before pulling it back in fear. "If you bite him now, you lock the bond forever! There's no turning back from an Alpha mark!""He won't have a future to turn back from if his heart stops," I said. My voice was low, flat, and hollowed out by pure desperation."My lord," Julian called from the door, his sidearm raised toward the corridor. "The Council's squad has cleared the rubble. We have two minutes before they breach this chamber.""Seal the door," I ordered without turning around."Sir—""Seal it!"Julian did not argue. He reached out, slammed his palm against the manual override panel, and shot the control box with his

Kael POVThe flooded foundry tunnel opened into a stone chamber carved directly beneath the bedrock.Warm amber light flickered from four brass lanterns mounted on the walls. The air smelled of linen, cedar, and old stone. In the center of the room sat a large bed covered in black silk sheets. No secondary cots. No chairs. One mattress resting on a raised stone platform.Lucien set me down near the doorway. My boots hit the floorboards, my knees wobbling before I caught my balance against the door frame.Julian pulled a heavy iron lever beside the threshold. A thick slab of granite dropped into place behind us with a thud, sealing the entrance. The muffled explosions from the High Council’s breach squad died out instantly."The chamber is sealed from the foundry shaft, my lord," Julian said, checking his wrist screen. "The High Council scanners cannot penetrate this depth. We have four hours before their drills relocate the sector line.""Good, " Lucien said. He unbuttoned his collar,

Lucien POVThe underground foundries collapsed behind us with a noise that made the ground shake. We got into the sanctuary just as millions of tons of rock closed the tunnel forever. The new room was deep, old, and carved from black quartz. The only light came from one oil lamp flickering on an iron stand near a stone tub filled with flowing mountain water.Julian locked the iron doors. He adjusted his coat, and his face was white with the dust. "The High Council drills can't go through this quartz level, my lord. We are safe for the night.""Check the ventilation shafts," I said, my voice tight. "Then leave us."Julian nodded. He signaled to Rin, who took his bag and followed him down the outer passage. The heavy iron latch clicked, leaving the two of us in the quiet stone room.I stood by the stone tub with my hands turned into fists. My chest fell in short breaths.Midnight had come. The temperature in the room did not get colder. The air became impossible to breathe. The smell of

Kael POVHe pulls his mouth off my cock with a sound, looking up at me with dark, hungry eyes. "You are so wet for me, sweetheart. Your core is completely open.""I hate you, " I pant, tears of pleasure spilling from the corners of my eyes. "Fix it... Please..."Lucien stands up on the bed. He unbuckles his leather belt, letting his wet trousers fall to the floorboards. His length is massive, thick and dark red, fully erect and heavy with Alpha heat. At the base of his shaft, the thick rounded flesh of his knot is already swelling, ready to lock us together. He kneels between my knees, grabbing my thighs and pulling my legs up over his shoulders."Look at me, Kael," Lucien commands, his hands holding my knees wide open.I look into his eyes. The black pupils hold no hesitation. There is an ancient, unyielding love that burns brighter than any dark-matter bomb.He presses the head of his shaft against my slick, swollen opening. "Lucien—"He pushes forward.A loud, sharp cry tears fro
