Janet's POVI did't know how long I lay there in that basement. The blood kept coming, pooling beneath me until my dress was soaked through. My vision was starting to blur at the edges when the door finally swung open.It wasn't Ashley. And it wasn't one of the guards. It was the Martinez family physician—Dr. Miller. The moment he saw me, all the color drained from his face."Mrs. Martinez? What the hell are you doing down here?""Mr. Martinez said you were resting in the VIP suite."I tried to speak, but nothing came out.All I could do was point at my stomach, tears streaming down my face.Dr. Miller rushed over and dropped to his knees beside me. The second his hand touched my belly, he sucked in a sharp breath."You're fully dilated—and your water's already broken!""We need to get you into surgery—now."He tried to lift me, but the moment I moved, a gush of warmth spilled out from between my legs.Blood. A lot of blood.Dr. Miller's hands were shaking as he screamed toward the hal

Janet's POVMy vision was fading in and out.Ashley sat in a chair scrolling through her phone, glancing up at me every now and then like I was some lab rat she was observing."Janet, tell me something. Why did you even marry into this family in the first place?""For my brother's looks? For the Martinez money?""But you've gotta think. You came from nothing. What made you think you deserved to walk through those doors?"I didn't answer.I just kept pressing the spots Dr. Miller had told me about.Pressing as hard as I could.Even if the hope was razor thin.Ashley kept going."If you hadn't gotten pregnant early, my brother never would've married you.""The plan was for you to pop out a son, at least make yourself useful.""But then the ultrasound came back. A girl. The old man's face went black.""Thank God Rachel's carrying a boy. Otherwise the Martinez line would've died out this generation."She stood up, walked over, and nudged my leg with her foot."So here's the thing. You need

Janet's POVThe fake body was prepared with painstaking detail.Silicone skin. Blood bags inside. Temperature simulation.Lying in the morgue cooler, it was indistinguishable from the real thing.I sat in the surveillance room, watching the monitors. My father sat beside me, holding my hand."Any regrets?" he asked."About what?""About marrying him."I thought for a moment, then shook my head. "No. At least now I know what people are really made of."On the screen, Jason finally emerged from the delivery room.He was holding a swaddled baby, his face lit up with joy.Rachel was wheeled out on a bed, pale but smiling bright.Old Man Martinez hobbled over on his cane, trembling as he looked at the child. Tears streamed down his weathered face."A grandson. I finally have a grandson.""The Martinez line lives on."The whole crowd swarmed around the baby, laughing and cheering. Then Jason suddenly seemed to remember me. He asked a nurse nearby, "How's my wife doing?""No word yet. Dr. Mil

Jason's POVThe Martinez family business started falling apart.First, our long-time suppliers suddenly cut us off, citing "product quality issues." I sent people to investigate, but they wouldn't even open their doors. Then the banks pulled our credit. The renewal contracts we'd already agreed on got rejected for "risk control failures." Our cash flow tightened up overnight. Then the clients started dropping. Major deals got canceled out of nowhere and signed over to our competitors. In one month, the Martinez family's market value dropped by thirty percent. My father had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. I was running back and forth between the company and his bedside, running on fumes.Rachel held the baby and complained. "You're always out. You never spend time with your son.""The company's in trouble. Dad's in the hospital. What do you want me to do?""So what if the company's in trouble? We have money. Enough to last ten lifetimes."I looked at her, and she seemed l

Janet's POVI sat in the Italian estate, watching the monitors. My father walked in and handed me a file."The Martinez Group's market value is down to three billion.""Debt at five billion.""Bankruptcy liquidation should happen within the next few days."I took the file. "Thank you, Dad."He sat down and let out a heavy sigh."Janet, I'm worried about you. I don't want you getting stuck in this. If anything comes up, anything at all, you tell me. Okay?"I closed the file and gave him a small smile. "Don't worry.""The moment my baby died, I was already out.""Now, I'm just becoming myself again."My father looked at me, his eyes filled with complicated emotions. "Janet, I failed to protect you."I stood up and walked to the window, looking out at the vineyards stretching across the hills."No, Dad. People have to grow up eventually.""Some people just take longer to get there.""Some people only need one betrayal. One death."My father didn't say anything else.He just stood beside m
