BELLYMy jaw dropped, my lips parting wide like I'd just seen something I never thought I'd see.Great moon, she called me Mummy. She just...she called me Mummy! My little girl knew what I looked like."Michelle!"I dumped my bag on the floor before my knees followed. My arms flew wide open, tears running down my cheeks as I laughed and waited for my girl."Mummy!" She dropped her toy and ran to me, crashing into my arms which instantly shut around her.I laughed as I wept, holding her tight to myself. She felt so small. So fragile. It was the first time I was ever holding a little kid."Oh, my beautiful baby. You look so good. You're so beautiful," I whimpered, raining praises on her.She looked like me. While I was locked up, I kept wondering if she would look like me or her dad. I won!I pressed my nose into the dip of her neck and sniffed.Oh, blessed moonlight, she smelled so good. Like her father."Where have you been, Mummy?" she asked as we pulled from the hug, though I re

BELLY I closed my eyes and tried to picture the worst of my situation. Tried not to imagine the man I had always loved was in front of me, and that he looked and smelled so good.Fortunately, the threatening ache subsided and I could breathe again. But something told me the full force might be coming for me soon. Gods, I hated going into heat. It was always too excruciating.Returning my attention to the field, Kage had shot his arrow and hit his target. His men regarded him with so much reverence. One of them took his place on the target stand, no doubt wanting to try. One look at the position of his arm and I knew he was doing a poor job."An enemy would take you in the chest before you even released yours; at best, you might manage to shoot his hat." The words left me before I could stop them. All eyes turned on me, surprise flashing through their faces.Kage looked the most surprised of them all."Miss Isabelle." He put his hands behind his back. A hint of amusement played in

BELLY Forcing a polite smile, I turned to him. "I have my reasons, Alpha Kage. I do not mix business with pleasure for any reason. I was expecting 'your woman' would simply bear the loss and go elsewhere."I really hoped the distaste wasn't obvious in my tone. Please tell me it wasn't.Kage remained calm, not seeming like he was in the mood to argue the matter.Dipping my head again, I resumed my walk to my child.Michelle and I spent more time together. I felt special knowing I was the only one who had been able to make her this happy in a long time. Both of us were taking a stroll down the field and I was just about to tell her it was time for me to leave when I spotted the she-devil coming.Annalise Birkhead. She actually looked like a witch with that menacing look she had in her eyes. It was as if she was a lioness and I had just trespassed into her territory. That felt good."Annalise. How good to see you. I was just about to leave." I put on the kind of sincere smile that c

BELLYI stared at her in disbelief.Excitement and worry warred in my chest; excitement because my daughter liked me enough to want to live with me, and worry because why wouldn't she want to stay here where she had been her whole life?I crouched again."This is your home, honey. Don't you like it?"Her eyes lowered to the ground as she shook her head no.Oh, gods."Can you tell me why?"She hesitated, then let it out. Her voice dripped with sadness."I've never been happy. Mummy doesn't like me. She always does things that favor her own daughter. She could hurt my feelings to make her happy."A knife-like pain stabbed me in the chest."She's Eloise's mum. I've always wanted to have my own Mummy. Someone who will play with me and get me the things I love. Daddy loves me, but he's always very busy. He doesn't see the way Mummy treats me."My head grew dizzy at once, a tremor running through my body.No. It couldn't be.A question rested at the tip of my tongue, but I was too scare

KAGEIt was near midnight.Usually, on such nights, I'd go through people's complaints, read a book or pretend to sleep.Rarely, I got lucky and slept. Every other time, the sleep just wouldn't come no matter how hard I tried.Tonight, I wasn't going through complaints or reading a book. I was standing on the balcony of my office, thinking of a certain hazel-eyed woman who had challenged me and my men in the field. On repeat, I played the scene where she had shot that arrow in the air and all I could think about was how perfect that had been. To be fair, I'd chosen that target because I was sure it was high enough for her to fail. Not in my wildest dreams would I have imagined a woman would hit it. Even most males found it difficult to hit such targets.I caught myself smiling for the umpteenth time and almost wanted to send for the healer. Something must be wrong with me.It probably had something to do with me loving tough women like her.I tried not to, but then it crossed my m

BELLYAs the sun rose, so did my shame.I woke up feeling disgusted with myself, for wanting a man who didn't want me. Even though I couldn't blame myself as it was my body desiring these things, I still wished I hadn't been so unlucky to be plagued with the mate heat.I took a bath and prepared my mind to be positive. Today was going to be remarkable. It was the day I got to make Annalise feel the pain of losing a child. Before leaving the house, I had to join the family for breakfast.Breakfast was going so well until Valentin asked a question that nearly made me choke on my wine."You're twenty-four, Isabelle. Have you had any suitors yet?"Thank the Moon I had enough composure not to spit out my wine, otherwise I would have coughed it all out on the table.Nate noticed and sniggered from his seat.Valentin, however, maintained a serious face, waiting for an answer.Well, according to what Donna told me, my sister hadn't been big on relationships. She'd been more focused on per

ANNALISE"And that will be all for today," I said, bringing the meeting to an end. There was rustling of papers as people arranged their bags and files.Someone walked up to me."Thank you for the lesson today, Ms. Annalise. You truly are a blessing to our world."I returned the smile, rising to my feet. "It's always a pleasure to help people.""Good luck on your wedding. Though, I've been expecting that we here will get an invitation." She added a nervous laugh.Ugh. Of course. Everyone wanted to come to Annalise's wedding. My phone beeped on the table."You're right. I'll definitely arrange for that," I told her just to make her feel better. Her face lit up. She was all smiles as she left.I picked up my phone, turned around so nobody would see me when I did the exhausting eye roll. I checked the text that had come in, and the world seemed to stop moving around me.'You should check on your daughter. Is she safe?'It was from an unknown number.Multiple scenarios and emotions pl
