I Refuse to Be the Understanding One のすべてのチャプター: チャプター 1 - チャプター 9

Sylvia's POVI was just about to leave when someone slapped the table and exclaimed, "Don't leave yet, Sylvia! There's still one more round. Let's make things a little more exciting. We're going to look through everyone's chats to see who texts whom the most."My best friend, Natalia Williams, pushed her phone across the table with a smile and said, "Sure. I don't have anything to hide."Silence descended upon the private room in an instant when the results were revealed. The person my boyfriend, Aiden Ramsey, texted the most wasn't me.It was Natalia.Someone let out an awkward laugh and said, "Well… It looks like Aiden and Natalia text each other quite often."Natalia blinked and said casually, "We can't help it. Sylvia's too mature and tends to solve all her problems by herself. Aiden needs someone to lend him an ear when he's under a lot of pressure."She seemed to accidentally tap on her chat with Aiden as she spoke, displaying one of their conversations on the screen."S

Sylvia's POVI began packing my belongings after I returned to my marital home.Aiden and I had picked this house together. He told me that he felt happy just thinking about how I would be there to greet him whenever he returned from work. The lights in the house would be switched on. There would be soup boiling on the stove, and the balcony would be filled with my favorite camellias. However, at that moment, I realized that there were traces of Natalia all over our home. The fridge was packed with her favorite peach-flavored sparkling water. The cashmere shawl she had left behind was draped across the couch. Her bridesmaid dress looked even more intricate than my wedding dress as they hung side by side.I stared at the two dresses as I stood in the walk-in closet. An inexplicable bitterness bubbled in my chest. It turned out that I had already been slowly replaced by Natalia in Aiden's heart even before the wedding.I didn't cry. Instead, I just placed my identification docume

Third-Person POVAiden's face slowly darkened as he gripped his phone."She's moving to Frostbelt?" he demanded. "When did she decide this?"The wedding planner hesitated for a moment before answering, "Ms. Johnson said that she received the offer a long time ago, but she only made her decision today. She also said that she would pay all the cancellation fees for the wedding. You don't need to do anything."Aiden looked as if the wedding planner had just told him something utterly ridiculous."I don't need to do anything?" he repeated. "She just cancelled our wedding!""Ms. Johnson made herself very clear last night," the wedding planner said carefully. "She said that the wedding had become completely unrecognizable."The wedding planner's words were like needles that stabbed themselves into Aiden's heart. He reflexively looked down at the computer screen.Natalia was still on the other end of the line. Her eyes looked bloodshot as she hugged her knees."Did Sylvia get mad bec

Sylvia's POVAiden suddenly sank to his knees upon hearing my words. The snow was extremely cold. His knees made a muffled thud when they sank into the snow."I've learned my lesson, Sylvia," he said. "I'll never see Natalia ever again. I'll delete all the chat logs. I'll restart the wedding preparations. I'll give you everything that you want. Just please come back, okay?"My colleagues looked at us from where they stood a distance away. One of them wanted to step forward, but I shook my head to stop them.I looked at Aiden, who was kneeling before me.I didn't feel any hatred or pain in my heart. I only felt a sense of calm that came when the dust had settled."Aiden, you could never afford the things that I wanted in the past. I don't want them anymore, so there's no need for you to give them to me now."Aiden looked as if he was teetering on the edge of a breakdown when he looked up at me."But I love you," he said. "I truly do…""It's time to leave those feelings in the

Sylvia's POVAiden finally managed to call me one day.It was snowing in Frostbelt. I had just finished snapping a set of delayed shots of the aurora. My fingers had turned stiff from the cold.Aiden spoke in a deep, hoarse voice on the other end of the line."I know that it's too late for me to say anything now, Sylvia, but I truly regret my actions. I think about the 'what ifs' every day. What if I hadn't just said that you were understanding at the party? What if I had chased after you? What if I hadn't removed the photo wall? What if I had noticed how upset you were earlier?"His voice sounded utterly broken by the time he was done speaking."Maybe we wouldn't have ended up like this."I looked at the snowy plains in the distance."There are no 'what ifs', Aiden," I said softly.Aiden fell silent on the other end of the line."You didn't just hurt me deeply once," I continued. "You did it countless times. I didn't stop loving you immediately. It happened after I was disap
