Sometimes, he would invite me out for dinner. When he proposed, I accepted immediately because I had already fallen deeply in love with him.Two years into our marriage, everything changed.Elena's arrival changed everything.Mattias pleaded with me to let her stay with us. She had just graduated from university and didn't have a job yet. He promised she would move out once she found one. Since she was family, I welcomed her without any objections.---MATTIAS' POV"I'd appreciate it if you could prepare for my sister's arrival," Mattias said."Babe, I hope you're not upset?" he asked."Huh? Upset? No, I'm not," I replied."Good. As long as you trust me, there won't be any problems."I smiled and walked into the kitchen

I opened the door cautiously. Mattias had just finished his shower. He glanced at me quickly and then his eyes were on the papers on the table again. "What are you doing here?" he asked, not looking up. "I couldn't sleep", I softly replied. He said nothing. I moved nearer, and sat on the bed beside him."Mattias," I said softly. Finally he looked at me."I'm sorry if I've hurt you in anyway," I whispered. Please let me know if I have. “I don’t want us to keep on living like strangers. He was silent for a moment. His face softened a little when he tucked a piece of hair behind my face. I shut my eyes, praying things were finally changing. I leaned down slowly and kissed him. He didn't step back right away, which surprised me. My heart beat fasten. Perhaps there was still hope for us. I held to him, certain we could cure all the damage that had been wrought between us. CHAPTER THIRTY SIXSUMMER'S POVWeeks had passed since Elena moved into our home, and Mattias was no longer the man I had married.Little by little, I grew used to watching him choose his family over me. Every decision they made became the rule of our marriage, and my opinions no longer mattered.I eventually resigned from Hart Global and became a full-time housewife. From sunrise until late at night, I cooked, cleaned, washed clothes, and took care of the mansion. My mother-in-law ordered me around like I was a servant. My father-in-law pretended not to notice. Elena copied everything her mother did, treating me as though I didn't belong in the house.Still, I never complained."If staying home makes Mattias happy, then I'll do it," I reminded myself every day. "As long as I'm by his side, one day he'll love me again."That hope became the only thing keeping me alive.Mattias started coming home later and later.Every evening, I prepared dinner exactly the way he liked it. I served h

CHAPTER 38 Summer's POV Was she... the woman Mattias had slept with? It just kept coming back to me, and it wouldn't let me go. No. It couldn't have happened. Mattias would never do something like that to me… Would he? My eyes watered, my vision blurred. Not summer yet. I clenched my fists and made myself calm. If I cried in front of this woman she would think I was soft. I took a deep breath and looked at her. Vanessa smiled, but it was not a smile of pleasure. It was the kind that sneered at you before you spoke. Hmm... Her eyes slowly travelled from my head to my feet. “To be honest, I didn’t think Mattias would marry… someone like you. Her words hit like a slap. Yet I smiled. 'Really? Her arms folded across her chest. "So," she said, "tell me, how much is he paying you for this little game of his?" I frowned. "Game?" "Yes. She shrugged. "This marriage.""We're married," Vanessa said in a low voice, shaking her head. "Married by law," she corrected. There's a difference. I lo

Summer POV The next morning I was up before the sun rose. Another sleepless night and my eyes were swollen from crying but I forced myself out of my bed. Today would be different story. I couldn't let another fight ruin what little was left of my marriage. I'd apologise first if that was the only way to bring peace back into this house. I tied my hair back in a neat ponytail and washed my face. Straight to the kitchen. Soon the smell of breakfast being prepared filled the mansion. I cooked every dish Mattias liked. His favourite omelette. Toast, buttered. Fruits. Made his coffee the way it's supposed to be. I smiled a little as I set the table for dinner. Perhaps... This was the start of a new start perhaps. His footsteps echoed down the corridor. Mattias came into the dining room in a charcoal-gray suit, adjusting the cuff of his expensive watch. He was totally exhausted. Dark circles hung under his eyes. “Good morning,” I said softly. He glanced at me and then looked at the table
