LYSARA “I was wondering why the air suddenly smells like trash!" Helen's voice hits me before I even fully make it out of the car. The driver opens the boot and I collect my luggage before he drives off. Jessica is already with her little fan club, smiling as they fawn over her like she's the reincarnation of the moon goddess. I let out a heavy sigh as I adjust the strap of my backpack and drag my suitcase behind me, grudgingly making my way to my dorm room. I normally wouldn't pack too much clothes just to accompany Jessica home for a sick leave, but I was hoping to convince the alpha to send me to the pack school instead. Guess whose wishes went unanswered? That's right, me. "Jessica, didn't you say your father was going to send the freak to the community school in your pack? Why does the air still reek of…the slumps" Helen, Jessica’s best friend and president of Club Jessica wrinkles her nose like the air actually stinksJessica gives her award winning smile. “Well, father ha

LYSARA At his brother's command, Kaeren lets go of me and I claw at my throat, desperate for a breath of fresh air. " Oh My God, Lysa!” Coral, my best and only friend, comes running and stoops to the ground beside me. She helps me to my feet, gently rubbing my back in the process. “Come on, let's get you out of here!" She takes hold of my hand and pulls me away from the crowd. Kaeren still looks like he wants to kill me, but he can't do anything now that his brother has interfered. When I get to where Kareal is standing, he puts a hand on my shoulder to stop me. " You should learn to pick your battles carefully, little one.” I move past him without a response. No matter how Kaeren gets pissed off, he isn't going to kill me. I'm still an Alpha's adopted daughter.Coral takes me to my dorm and sits me down on my bed, before searching in the cabinets for first aid. “You can't keep letting them treat you like this," she murmurs, getting on her knees before me so she can apply ointm

LYSARA " Let go of the girl, Kaeren,” Professor Holden says, stepping out from behind one of the trees, hands nestled in his pants pockets. Kaeren straightens up immediately and lets out a frustrated sigh. " But professor she's…”" You are not sure of that. Let. Her. Go.” The professor demands. I do not really think Kaeren is going to obey, given the fuck you attitude he gives everyone, but he sighs and steps away from her. The professor turns his attention to me, his gaze feeling like wax on my skin. " I apologize for my boys’ behavior, especially Kaeren's. You are free to take your leave now.” " But she's our mate isn't she?” Kirrian asks. " Why did you refuse Kaeren not to bite her?”I hear Kirrian ask as I begin to walk away. When I don't hear the professor reply, I turn around to find them walking away in a single file. I pass by the cafeteria on my way to my dorm and get my favorite chocolate milk latte and a bag of chips to help me think, before heading on to my dorm. As I

LYSARA " So you are telling me that you've had your wolf since you were ten?” Coral asks in a whisper staring around like she's the one telling me a secret. “But that is not possible." I nod. “I know it isn't, but that is exactly what happened to me. I was attacked by a bunch of rogue wolves who were bent on using me as their next meal. Everything happened so fast. One moment I was running away from them and the next my wolf had taken over and killed the rogues.” Excitement fills her eyes as she reaches over the table and grabs my hands. “That's amazing! See, I knew you had something more to you than just a quiet nerd. Can you shift, please?" I groan inwardly. “Haven't you been listening to everything I said, Coral?" She shrugs and I sigh. “I can't shift into my wolf. I don't know how. She's not trained to follow orders like other wolves." I do not tell her that I shifted on my eighteenth birthday. She won't tell a soul about it, but walls have ears. No one can find out about wha

LYSARA I stare at the professor like he just told me that the sky is red and the oceans are green. I search his expression for any sign of unseriousness, anything to show that he's joking about what he just told me. I don't find any. He's really serious about this. " How…how.. how could she be alive?" I ask, not understanding what he's trying to make me believe. “I saw it myself. The moment she stepped out of the shadows my wolf pounced on her and ripped her neck open." “She's a warlock," he states. “Not just a warlock but a top tier level warlock. They do not die by just a scratch to the neck." “So you are telling me I've been carrying this guilt for three years, when in fact I didn't do anything?" He nods. “But that is not the point of focus. If Vivian saw you shift into your wolf, she must know how powerful you are. And she must also that you study here at Arcadia." “And that's not good because…" “Warlocks are magic collectors," he finishes. “They do not just practice dark
