[Eileen’s POV]My knees hit the stone before I understood I was falling, the cold biting straight through my skirts hard enough to bruise, and the room went white at the edges, then gray, then nothing at all for one long second where I couldn’t remember which way was up. I bit down on the inside of my cheek without meaning to, that was the only thing that dragged me back, that small ugly sting, and I came up out of it gasping on my hands and knees like I’d been held underwater.Get up.
