ELLA’S POVI spent the following days working quietly but determinedly to help secure whatever support we could gather before the coalition’s formal vote, understanding that Jason’s public presentation before the council, however genuinely persuasive, would likely need considerable additional groundwork to actually succeed given the sheer scale of what Cross’s public revelations had already damaged.“I want to understand exactly who currently supports us, who remains genuinely undecided, and who’s already leaning toward Cross’s position,” I told Aldric during one of our private strategy sessions, my own focused determination channeling itself into exactly the kind of careful, methodical research I’d once applied to my own business ventures. “If we understand the actual political landscape clearly, we can direct our limited remaining time toward the conversations and evidence most likely to actually shift genuine votes.”Aldric provided what intelligence he’d already gathered, and I sp

ELLA’S POVI threw myself into the corruption investigation over the following days with the same focused, methodical determination I’d once applied to building my own business, understanding the genuine value my particular financial expertise could offer given how thoroughly Cross’s sophisticated shell company structures had already proven capable of evading our previous, less specialized investigative efforts.“I want access to the full financial records for every council member we’re currently investigating,” I told Aldric, settling into the temporary office space we’d established for the investigation’s continued urgent work. “Not simply the summary reports your team has already compiled, but the complete underlying documentation. Sometimes the most valuable patterns hide in details that seem insignificant until you’re looking at the complete picture.”Aldric arranged the access I’d requested, and I spent long hours working through increasingly complex financial documentation, cro

ELLA’S POVThe weeks following the coalition’s formal confirmation of Jason’s leadership settled into something I hadn’t dared hope for throughout most of this exhausting, dangerous journey—genuine, uncomplicated peace, our household finally able to focus primarily on caring for our four precious children rather than constant crisis management.I found myself, during those precious weeks, finally able to properly bond with each of our children without the accumulated weight of immediate danger constantly demanding equal attention. Our eldest daughter, whom we’d finally named Elena after my own late mother, displayed the same fierce, determined personality that had characterized her strong grip from the very first moment I’d held her. Our son, Marcus, carried a quieter, more watchful temperament, though his eyes carried the same steady intelligence I recognized from Jason’s own thoughtful nature. Our second daughter, Grace, named for the grandmother I’d never properly known, showed ear

ELLA’S POV“I want to be there,” I said, watching Jason review the surveillance team’s latest reports regarding the suspicious property, my voice carrying determined conviction despite his obvious, immediate hesitation at my request.“Ella, this could be genuinely dangerous,” he said, setting aside the documentation to address my request directly. “If this property represents active connection to Cross’s operational network, whatever confrontation results from our eventual action could easily turn violent.”“I understand the danger,” I said, meeting his concerned gaze steadily. “But Jason, I’m tired of sitting back, waiting anxiously for Aldric’s team to handle everything while I remain safely distant from the actual action. I’ve proven, repeatedly throughout this entire campaign, that I can handle danger and confrontation effectively when it genuinely matters. This matters enormously, both strategically and personally, given everything Cross has already threatened against our family.

ELLA’S POVI spent the following morning working through whatever contacts and resources I could reasonably access, understanding the genuine urgency of identifying our mysterious watcher before whatever patient observation he continued conducting potentially escalated into something considerably more dangerous.“I want to cross-reference his physical description against every record we have connected to Cross’s broader network,” I told Aldric, reviewing the security footage once more with focused, methodical attention. “Not simply the recovered training documentation, but everyone we’ve previously identified throughout this entire investigation. Household staff, coalition contacts, anyone who might offer some connection point we haven’t yet considered.”Aldric’s team worked through the comparison with careful thoroughness, and I found myself, watching the grainy surveillance footage repeatedly, unable to shake a nagging, familiar sense that something about the young man’s features st
